For those taking Tirz ..which side effects have hit you hardest? More or less desire for sweets? Foods that no longer taste right? Anything else? I do my best to avoid candy, but being able to keep eating my bags of licorice while still dropping weight would be amazing. lol

Gerd. A whole lot of gerd. The first month was the roughest, and it has eased up since then.

About 20 hours after that initial shot, I came very close to throwing up. My mouth kept filling with saliva and I was spitting for roughly 3 minutes straight. Swallowing was impossible. At the time I weighed 226 lbs, and the dose was only 3mg, so an overly high dose wasn't the issue.

After that, things got less intense — mostly just stomach discomfort, and it usually shows up around 15-20 hours after injecting.

"Food noise" is something I deal with a lot. Tirz doesn't really seem to cut down my wanting food. What it does do is make me feel full after just 3 bites.

For me, the effects fade fairly fast, possibly by day 4. That's why I dose every 6 days instead of 7. I'm 3 months in, at 7.5mg, and getting ready to move up to 10mg because I've been stuck for the past 3 weeks, only dropping around a pound per week recently.

I've thought about switching to a 1/2 dose every 3 days. Mixing Reta and Tirz has also crossed my mind. So far I haven't read enough about either option to settle on anything.

All told, I'm down 39 lbs, with my BMI going from 40 to 33. The whole thing came from about $60 of magic powder.

None of the stomach-related issues have hit me. The chatter about food in my head stopped almost right away. I hadn't noticed any "alcohol chatter" before, yet that has vanished too.

The one genuine side effect I've had to handle is anhedonia. During the first 8-12 weeks it was at its worst, though making it to the gym on a regular basis has made a huge difference.

A few folks I know personally have combined reta with tirz and gotten solid outcomes. Their path was tirz first, then a move to reta when progress stalled, and once they raised their reta dose, side effects showed up. The workaround was microdosing reta alongside continued tirz, and now they're dropping weight again.

Do reduced cravings count as a side effect? It really hinges on whether you mean compulsive food thoughts or ordinary hunger signals and desires. If the rest of your eating, workouts, and dosing are under control, I'd guess you can still have licorice now and then without issue. That said, if licorice sets off a binge for you, then your results may differ.

My own start was a microdose of 0.50mg, so compared with people who began at 2.5mg, my side effects were likely less severe. What I noticed was lower appetite and getting full sooner. The nonstop food preoccupation went away fast. No GI problems showed up for me until 1.25mg.

I had the same thought — pairing Tirz with a bit of Reta, or perhaps a lower dose of Tirz combined with a standard Reta dose?

For me, it's been reduced hunger and feeling full, plus tiredness up to now.

Roughly 7 days back, I moved my dose up to 3.0 mg from 2.5

GERD hit me hard. On top of that, I dealt with major Gastro problems. My stomach felt blown up, and nothing could move through.

The pain was awful.

Eventually I vomited, and that brought my pain down.

That said, I am stubborn to a fault. I took a week off, then brought it back gradually: 2.5 MG shots spaced 10 days apart, then 7. In the end things leveled out and I am fine now.

My pens come by prescription, so there is no way to lower or split the dosages.

If I had to start over, I would use a better titration schedule than what the doctor offers.

These days the effects taper off toward the end of the week, but it is still enough to keep me at 2.5 MG. Plus a dose of Cagri to lend a hand.

I began at a very slow pace, and I've been on Tirz since October. My stools come out like little pebbles, so I've needed a laxative to make a bowel movement—though just on 2 occasions. On the day I inject, I feel a bit queasy. Foods don't seem as tasty to me now, except for sugary items. GERD hasn't been an issue for me. The food noise is gone too.

Since this medication delays gastric emptying, your bowel movements will become less frequent. Use a stool softener and stay calm about it. That's one side effect. . . . if you're someone who likes a drink the way i did, it completely killed that for me. One glass of wine might be fine. Because beer has carbonation, it's kind of unpleasant as well. I've seen that people who undergo bariatric surgery tend to give up fizzy drinks in much the same way.

I stuck with the Eli Lilly titration plan they suggest: 2.5 mg over 4 weeks, after that 5.0, 7.5, and so on. Once I hit 15, weight kept coming off, starting weight 273, then it stopped at 190. I moved to injecting every 6 days, later every 5, and only dropped a couple more pounds. So I returned to a 7-day gap for tirz and put 2.5 mg of reta in the middle of the week. That did it! I'm at 175 now, goal weight 165. Tirz gave me zero side effects, reta brought some GERD. I also had to start using Dulcolax and Miralax consistently so everything stayed regular.

To split my Mounjaro doses, I move what's inside my 4 monthly manufacturer pens into 1 sterile 5ml Luer-Lok syringe barrel. I do this by putting the pen's needle into the syringe's exit opening and firing the pen like normal. The reason I use 5ml is that the Lilly pens push the liquid out quite forcefully, which makes a lot of foam, so the extra room is needed. Once I've massaged the foam down, I move the valuable liquid into a cartridge, and after that I can set my dose with my adjustable pen. With the 1st manufacturer pen I attempted to inject into my syringe, it went all over the place instead of into the syringe. I missed the opening of the LL. That's not a mistake a person makes twice. There are other ways to get the manufacturer cartridge with needle out of the manufacturer pen. There are plenty of good YouTube videos. I tried those, but it always felt like I was taking a grenade apart...

The reflux/gerd/whatever you want to name it. Once I took my bp meds and other pills at night, it always seemed like they got lodged at the back of my throat, and at times swallowing was tough. These days I take famotidine, 1 in the morning and 1 at night, and things are back to normal. The trouble swallowing really had me panicking, though — that part was not cool.

i used brand-name Zep for roughly a year to a year and a half. during the first 3-4 weeks, like clockwork, 36 hours after my injection—and again when i moved up to 5mg—i'd get horribly ill: nausea, projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea for around 24 hours, then i'd be completely fine. i recently took a 6 month break because of insurance and restarted with the single dose vials instead of the auto pin. thinking i was clever, i used every last drop of the solution and ended up with an extra .5mg, making 3mg total... i regret doing that. i was so unbelievably sick that i even threw my back out (chronic back issue) from how hard i was vomiting. i halved the following dose, and once i switch over to reta i'm definitely going to titrate much more slowly

Has anyone else found that red wine tastes really strange once they're on Tirz?

I just got back home, and a few nights ago I poured my first glass since beginning Tirz 3 mo's ago. The bottle had already been opened, likely sitting around for a few weeks, so I figured it had simply gone stale.

Then this evening I uncorked a brand new bottle, and wow! Nope! The taste is not good at all.

Honestly, this alone might push me to switch to Reta! Can anyone confirm that Reta doesn't come with this problem...

My test subject has a firm lump plus soreness where the shot went in (Reta under 1mg), lasting past 48 hrs. Other subjects drawing from the identical batch show nothing at all.

Red wine has lost its appeal for me. It isn't that the taste is off—I can still drink it—but it no longer tastes good, either. Manhattans have also become less pleasurable because of the sweet vermouth. Other cocktails, however, I still enjoy. My alcohol intake in general is down. Part of that comes from paying closer attention to my diet, yet even when I take a night off, my urge to drink remains low.

As for other foods and drinks, I haven't seen any significant difference.

Began on 2.5, and for the initial 3 weeks I dealt with fairly intense nausea lasting 24-48 hours post-injection. Just moved up to 3.75 and experienced the most severe constipation I've ever had. After 20 years of drinking 3 Diet Cokes daily, that craving has vanished. And much to my dismay, I can't even get through 1 glass of wine during happy hour anymore!

Ozempic at a low dose of 0.8mg/week gave me terrible nausea and malaise for a whole year. In contrast, when I moved to tirz and raised it to 15mg/week within 1 month, side effects were barely present—occasional mild nausea and a single instance where my skin felt odd. My method involved taking smaller doses more often; I'm not suggesting others do the same, but it does appear that how each person reacts to side effects varies enormously.
