In the past I relied on My Fitness Pal, but these days their barcode scanner is locked behind a subscription — what a shame. What is everyone here using to keep tabs on macros? My thinking is that if I can get this dialed in instead of only counting total calories, it will help me exponentially with my fat loss. I am an android user, in case that matters.

Thanks!

MacrosFirst is the app I use. It runs about $40 annually, and while the interface isn't the smoothest, it gets the job done once you get the hang of it. Being able to build recipes and set my own portion sizes is a feature I appreciate. You can also choose between net carbs and total carbs.

Gemini is my pick. The reason I enjoy it: I can put in a dish I made myself, and it works out the macros based on how much of it I actually consume.

Gemini, as in the AI?

I’m on mynetdiary — the one with the green apple icon in the App Store. You pay 1 time, which suits me since subscriptions drive me up the wall.

What exactly do people mean by Macro's?
"Macros" is shorthand for macronutrients. Based on what I've been told by a huge number of folks attempting to shed pounds or reshape their physique, whether or not peptides are involved... the takeaway is that monitoring what you eat, not merely counting calories, matters a lot. Getting your calorie intake under your expenditure is a solid first step. Search TDEE and start your reading there. I'm not familiar with the technical terminology, but for those taking peptides, keeping tabs on macros is really crucial. Why? When you push the body into fast fat loss, fuel comes primarily from 2 places: fat or muscle. Preserving muscle requires working out and eating protein. The rule of thumb I've seen cited most often is 1g of protein for every kg of bodyweight.

Edit: Hold on a second. I only just noticed who wrote this. You absolute... You managed to bring out my tism, congrats!!

yep. There’s a chat inside the app that I named "macro tracking". Besides letting me save recipes so they stick around for next time, I can also scan a barcode with my camera to log food and so on. Much simpler than every purpose-built tracker I’ve tried.

I'm on MacroFactor with the annual plan. Up to now I'm really happy with it and it does a solid job for tracking, though in my opinion the AI photo feature is pretty unreliable.

Cronometer is my go-to and I'm happy with it, though the price tag of $60/year isn't low.

Two features stand out for me: it saves foods so it can nudge you to log them again, and there's a barcode scanning option. So far, every item I've scanned has been found.

Gemini is in my rotation too. I go full nerd mode: every week I feed it my body scan results (BIA), plus monthly blood panels (probably switching to every 8 weeks before long), and on a weekly basis I have it build out an HTML file — one I had it set up back when I first got going — that gives me a full dashboard view of weekly and monthly trends covering macros, weight & muscle, blood work, and more. From that dashboard I can tap any given day and pull up a snapshot of precisely what I ate, with timestamps (I usually log in real time as I eat), which suppliments/peps/others I took that day, and a visual of how I felt that day (emojis Gemini picked out based on how I described my mood).

When people ask whether privacy worries me, lmfao, what privacy?! Google has seen some very questionable photos of me (thanks, locked folder) and everyone from here to China has my data anyways. If it ever leaked it has no identity tied to it, just some random guys protocols and weird depictions of I how I felt 😂

Keeps me engaged, entertained, and enlightened.

MacroFactor is my absolute go-to. It has kept me satisfied for just over 2 1/2 years.
Ohh, you're a Nippard viewer as well, huh? 🙂

Ohh, so you watch Nippard TOO, huh? 🙂

Years back I logged macros with myfitnesspal, but these days? I just guesstimate. After years of doing this, I'm decent at keeping track mentally.....

Tracking deez...........

Could someone explain what macros are?

I stuck with MyFitnessPal for ages, but around last year it started glitching badly and my entries kept disappearing. Gave Macrofactor a shot and couldn't stand it — logging there felt like such a hassle next to MyFitnessPal. After sampling pretty much every option available, I ended up going with Lose It! It's the finest app I've come across. There's a free tier, and the subscription isn't truly needed, plus discounts pop up frequently. I believe I spent $40 to get lifetime access. Entering food is incredibly quick, and you've got several routes to locate whatever you need. If you repeat the same meals often, you can log through past meals or frequently logged items. Having tested nearly all the apps on the market, I'd say this one wins by a large gap.

chronometer offers a free tier that i rely on.. or at least it did... it also includes a barcode scanner. perhaps the free version is gone now idk. since my meals are identical daily, tracking them isn't necessary anymore

I’m on Lose It. I believe it costs $35/yr. It covers all my needs. Micros have to be logged by hand, though.
