What does a typical day of eating look like on Tirz/Reta?

Usually I take in 1700-1900 calories each day

Morning meal: 2 eggs cooked in grass fed butter, plus a Protein Shake

Midday meal: Steak Salad (3oz) containing avacado, blue cheese crumbles, tomato, house vinagerette dressing

Evening meal: Steak or Chicken alongside Sweet Potato
Honestly, that sounds like the perfect day of eating to me lol!

Roughly 476 cal with 37g of protein, and I eat that same plate most days.
I realize I left out the rest of my day! Breakfast is typically a protein shake made with 2 scoops of whey protein, fruit, and skim milk — that comes to 68 g of protein in roughly 550 cal. Across the day I get through about 80 oz of water. Lunch is usually skipped, and then at around 3 or 4 I eat the chicken dinner I meal-prepped at home, the one in the picture above. A few hours after that I'll have an apple and sometimes a couple of light string cheese sticks, and my last thing before bed is a Chobani yogurt drink with 20 g of protein. I sleep like a baby!

My daily targets are under 1600 cal and more than 100 g of protein.

In May by itself, I dropped 19lbs while on Reta. Usually I'll have a Factor meal, which gives me 45g protein along with 20g carbs. For breakfast I blend up a smoothie containing AG1, creatine, BCAAS, 60g of plain whey, L-Carnitine, and green banana powder. At lunch I'll have a second, smaller protein smoothie that has roughly 30g protein. After that I fast for the remainder of the day.

It appears to be doing the job. Altogether that's about 140g protein, 50g Carbs, and roughly 1100 calories. I also consume a huge amount of water.
probably not enough fats, not gonna lie

On the day I take Tirz and the following day, I barely eat anything — it's just not possible for me. The other days of the week, I eat below survival-level amounts since the GI side effects hit me too hard and I have almost no appetite nearly all the time. I'm attempting to push through 8 weeks to find out whether this is sustainable, but I'm currently at week 6 and I really doubt I can continue for 2 more weeks.
That sounds terrible — what dose are you taking? I'm currently at 4.5 and have been putting off increasing it because of symptoms like these.

Not often. Was carnivore for almost 3 years before jumping on Reta.

On that diet plan, what was on your plate? Without vegetables in the mix, do you worry that you're coming up short on nutrients?

One more thing — after reading your comment I went completely off the rails, and it ended with me grilling chat gbt about whether "eating your veggies" is some scheme cooked up by "Big Farmers" (not big pharma 🤣 I crack myself up). I was genuinely spiraling.

Also, you should know that your comment sent me into a total spiral that ended with me demanding chat gbt tell me if “eating your veggies” is a ploy by “Big Farmers” (instead of big pharma 🤣 I laugh at my own jokes) I was legitimately having a meltdown

To make it brief, trying carnivore was never something I planned to do. It struck me as FAR TOO EXTREME. But after a two week vacation left me almost 20 pounds heavier, I felt I had to attempt something else. It became clear that moderation is not something I can do, so my trigger foods (breads, pasta, cereal, desserts, etc.) have to be avoided completely.

I began learning from the guidance of Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Shawn Baker, along with YT channels such as HomeSteadHow and MyZeroCarbLife. For 2.5 years, my diet was beef, butter, bacon, and eggs, with ZERO fruit and veggies. Cheese became a crutch for a period until I noticed it was having a dramatic effect on my weight, so I tried to keep it to a minimum.

My doctor, who had personal carnivore experience, supervised the whole thing. Bloodwork was done every 5-6 months, and a colonoscopy a few months ago showed everything was fine.

At one bloodwork appointment, my vitamin C was slightly low, so I added a supplement and it corrected itself quickly.

What amazes me is that for 2.5 years I consumed ZERO FIBER and had no major problems. One thing I noticed was that more fat made things move more easily. Related to that, my bms dropped a lot. Instead of 2-3 times a day, it became 2-3 times a week. It felt VERY odd psychologically, but to me it simply showed my body was extracting more from what I ate, leaving very little waste. That runs completely counter to what I was taught my whole life.

Carnivore is not something I would recommend for everyone, but it worked in my case and improved my relationship with food. Ketosis naturally suppresses appetite, which gave me room to try intermittent and multi-day fasting.

Back to the present. A few times a week I now have berries with homemade yogurt and protein powder. Nearly every day I also have 2-3 cans of sardines (my last bloodwork showed low Omega 3s), and I am eager to see the next results. If I feel like it, I will sometimes have a very small salad with steak, but I would say protein still makes up most of what I eat.

Long story short is that I had NO intention of ever trying carnivore. It seemed WAY TO EXTREME. Then I found myself up nearly 20 pounds after a two week vacation needing to try something different. I realized that I cannot moderate myself so I need to abstain from my trigger foods (breads, pasta, cereal, desserts, etc.)

I started following the teachings of Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Shawn Baker as well as YT channels like HomeSteadHow and MyZeroCarbLife. I ate beef, butter, bacon, and eggs with ZERO fruit and veggies for 2.5 years. I used cheese as a crutch for a while until I realized it had a dramatic impact on my weight, so I tried to limit that as much as possible.

I did this all under the supervision of my doctor who had experience with carnivore himself. I had bloodwork taken every 5-6 months and had a colonoscopy a few months ago and everything was good.

During one of my bloodwork sessions, my vitamin C came in a little low so I started supplementing with that and it quickly corrected itself.

What's crazy to me is that I ate ZERO FIBER for 2.5 years and had no major issues. I did find that things move easier when I eat more fat. On a related note, my bms decreased significantly. I went from going 2-3 times a day to 2-3 times a week. Psychologically it was VERY strange, but to me it just meant that my body was using more of what I ate and had very little waste as a result. That definitely goes against what I had been taught my entire life.

I don't think that Carnivore is for everyone, but it worked for me and helped my relationship with food. Being in ketosis is a natural appetite suppressant and that allowed me to experiment with intermittent and multi-day fasting.

Circle back to today. I now have berries with homemade yogurt and protein powder a few times a week. I also have 2-3 cans of sardines almost every day (my Omega 3s were low on my last round of bloodwork) and I'm looking forward to see my next set of results. I will also occasionally have a very small salad with steak if I'm in the mood but I would say I'm still heavy on the protein.

Doing multi day fasts was a big help while I was on Reta. Over a year of 36:8 got me to 60lbs lost. Every so often I threw in 72 hrs just to test how hungry I could get, lol. Unfortunately I let things slide, put half of it back on, and when I went to start again it simply wouldn't work. My metabolism must be fried. Honestly fasting is pretty great and I'll never fully abandon it. From fasting I picked up that heavy protein and fiber help hold onto muscle, and without that my Reta learning curve would have been way steeper.

Glp1s are much easier than the discipline you have to have fasting 😅😅

I'm vegetarian and taking reta (appetite suppression isn't strong for me), so this is a menu I'd happily repeat daily lol

Breakfast:

12g chia seeds (I soak those 12g in water first, then mix them into the yogurt)

200g fromage blanc with 3% fat (also known as quark, similar to greek yogurt)

90g sugar-free apple and strawberry compote (or just fresh fruits)

35g whey protein

Lunch:

250g green beans (air fried, gives me fries vibes hehe)

150g firm tofu, stir fried w a bit of oil and soy sauce

70g cooked chickpeas

30g mozzarella cheese

Snack:

Coffee with 100ml soy milk + 100ml milk (or whatever i have)

*If I feel hungre: 1 homemade protein muffin (I freeze them and then just put them in the microwave for 40 seconds)

Dinner:

egg salad sandwich: 3 whole eggs + 2 tbsp fromage blanc + 1 tbsp mustard (as dressing) + ciboulette (optional)

1 slice of sourdough bread

Total Daily Macros:

Calories: 1604 kcal

Protein: 135.6 g

Fat: 65.7 g

Total Carbs: 119.9 g (Net Carbs: 92.8 g)

Fiber: 27.1 g

Fiber is as important to me as protein 🙂 the very base of everything!

Started tirzepatide at the beginning of April. SW 149kg, CW 126kg.

Morning meal:

500g greek yoghurt plus 500g berries, typically blueberry/strawberry/raspberry.

Midday meal:

350g chicken/fish alongside vegetables such as cucumber, paprika, tomato, carrot.

Evening meal:

Same as the midday meal.

A few days back I slipped up and consumed an entire pizza margherita along with several fudge brownies.

I stick to the same meals every day, that's just easier for me.

In the morning: 2 eggs plus roughly 100 mg of sourdough bread as toast

Snack: greek yogurt around 2 hours later (I do get hungry, especially after raising my dose to 6mg of triz). Most of the time I add a carb too, usually sourdough bread

Lunch: chicken thigh or red meat left over from the night before, with rice or potato as the carb.

Snack: greek yogurt about 2 hours later with a carb

Dinner: chicken thigh or red meat alongside potatoes or rice

Snack: greek yogurt with a carb.

I land somewhere around 2300-2500 calories.

190 - 210 grams of protein, with the remainder coming from carbs and fat.
