USPS missing package claim: what to list as contents?

On Friday, 2 vials were sent to me through USPS priority mail, and the expected delivery was Monday. Monday morning, when I checked, USPS had already opened a missing package alert for it. The tracking showed it reached Greensboro, NC from Cali, but after departing the facility there, nothing else was updated. I phoned and talked with a rep, who told me he truly did not know why it had been routed to mail recovery, but that is where it is now, and I should submit a claim. According to him, packages usually only go there when the label can’t be read easily, the package is damaged, there’s a problem with the address, or similar issues. From the confirmation I saw for the shipment, it was a flat rate box and the label showed the right address and was very readable.

If I submit a missing claim as the rep instructed, what should I put down for the contents that were inside?

It seems to me that these accounts come up more often when the vials aren't in a x10 amount.

With only 2 vials involved, submitting a claim isn't something I'd bother doing. Even on a $300 order, I'd hesitate to file one.

Should the package arrive damaged, whatever is inside may already have been compromised — that happened to me once with an Amazon order, and the carrier actually phoned me about it. My guiding principle: never order more than you are willing to lose.
 
What gets me is that I actually laid eyes on the package — a flat rate box with a flawless label, and my address written correctly. Tracking showed it reached Greensboro, then left there Sunday night. But by early Monday, USPS had already opened a missing mail case on it. What would even trigger that? Neither I nor the sender — someone I personally know — filed anything. The rep I spoke with called it odd, since their system shows it landed at the mail recovery center. So what set off the flag to begin with? Damage would make sense, but I really don't believe that's what happened here. And my address has never been flagged before either.
