Is anyone else losing hair while on Tirzeptide? I'm a 60-year-old guy with a full head of hair. I began seeing a fair amount of hair on the shower screen.

After some reading, I came across info saying it isn't a Tirz side effect, but rather the result of a poor diet that Tirz can lead to. My diet, though, is quite good — I aim for 90+ grams of protein daily, plus plenty of vegetables. Fish, chicken, beef now and then, fresh greens (broccoli, snap peas, celery, mushrooms, salads).

The shedding was mostly noticed after coming home from deployment. At home my diet is far less restricted, and I've been taking in over 1,000 calories/day. While I was away I lost weight quite aggressively, maybe 800 cal/day and 40 lbs in 3 months.

I've been using GHK-Cu because of sagging skin on my neck (SQ and also cream applied after micro-needling). GHK-Cu is supposed to support hair growth, so it doesn't add up given what I'm seeing. The start of GHK-Cu lines up perfectly with when I first noticed the hair loss, but while away I had no shower screen to see hair collecting. So it may have been going on the whole time.

I don't really notice any thinning. But the shower drain screen doesn't lie!

Anyone dealing with something similar, or have any thoughts?

Back from deployment? At 60 you're still in service? I'm just wondering

Could it be stress-related?

You definitely need to take in more protein and calories. It will grow back, but that doesn't happen quickly. When you're dropping weight, your hair and nails are at the back of the line for protein. Have you picked up on whether your fingernails need trimming less often?

This has happened to me more than once, and I finally got the message — the 1st time, after weight loss surgery, I came close to becoming Anemic.

That calorie deficit is quite extreme.

Going under 1400 calories isn't advised, even for a very small woman. My guess is your calorie intake is far too low, and that is what's triggering the hair loss. You're essentially starving yourself.

Run your numbers through a TDEE calculator to figure out what you need each day. You'll likely discover you ought to be eating a fair amount more.

Could this simply be something that comes with getting older, and have nothing to do with your diet? Have you given Minoxidil or any of the usual treatments for hair loss a shot yet?

That said, rapid weight loss is recognized to cause hair loss as a side effect. As long as you don't already have a genetic tendency toward balding, I wouldn't think the outcome would last forever. If you'd rather play it safe, though, you could add a little more food and check whether that makes a difference.

A lot of women I know are really devoted to things such as biotin supplements, prenatal vitamins, and similar products for growing hair. I haven't researched it personally, but it's just one more possibility to consider.

I'm new to peptides, though haircare has been a big interest of mine for years: just remember that shedding 50 to 150 hairs per day is typical for most people! Noticing the shed rather than having it simply wash down the drain can really be startling, I get that. As long as you aren't actually seeing thinning in how your hair looks, I wouldn't worry yet, even though other people are right to bring up how few calories you're currently taking in.

Someone in my family went through the same thing. Increasing protein intake and applying minoxidil made a huge difference🙂 Hair started growing back in spots that had been getting thin.

No thinning that I've picked up on. My approach early on was way too aggressive, no question: injections every 6 days, dose increases every 18 days, daily gym sessions lasting an hour, plus calories set too low.

Honestly, it was thrilling. I'd spent literally 40 years dealing with a BMI sitting in the high 30's to 40 range, and at last there was genuine movement!

10mg Tirz/6d was my ceiling, and only last week did I add a very small Cagrilintide dose (.5mg/6d, shifted 3 days off the Tirz) on top. Appetite and food noise are close to unbearable. Boredom and stress are my classic eating triggers. Whether the Cag is doing what I hoped is still unknown.

LoseIt is the calorie app I use, and it reports roughly 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day since I got back home. My own suspicion is that I lowball my entries, and at 1,600 calories a day nothing comes off. So 1,200/d is basically the ceiling if I want to keep seeing progress.

Losing hair is a serious matter. I'm already dealing with that, and it's part of why the reta I purchased is still sitting unused. From what I read, AHK-Cu works better for hair compared to GHK-Cu, which leans more toward skin. Best of luck with your journey!

I've reached the highest tirz dose, yet roughly 12 months back, around the 5mg mark, my hair did begin shedding. Oddly, at 63 I still have a lot of it. I attributed it to losing weight rather than to any specific medication. I haven't used anything to curb the shedding. It has eased off. My weight loss has eased off too.

Tirz made my hair fall out in large amounts! Eventually I started taking oral minoxidil. I found out the difficult way that this medication may lead to blood pressure problems and dizziness. Looks like being bald is my fate 🤷‍♀️

From what I've read, it seems like fast weight loss is the culprit rather than a bad diet. Bariatric surgery patients deal with this frequently—it's a known side effect of losing weight quickly in general. That said, many accounts I've come across suggest it doesn't last forever.

The reason for the hair loss comes down to insufficient protein intake, nothing more.

Rapid weight reduction may lead to hair shedding. About 15 years back, when I lost 30lbs in a short period, my hair fell out in clumps even though I was eating well. My mom went through the same thing in comparable circumstances. It scared her a lot. Once my weight leveled off, it all grew back without issue.

Several years back—4 or 5—I dropped 40lbs over just a few months because intense stress and depression made me pretty much quit eating. At the start I was overweight, though not obese. No hair changes showed up right away; it was a couple months after the weight came off that things went south. In the span of 5 months I shed around 75% of my hair. At the time I was a 28-year-old woman. It did grow back eventually, but that took 2 years plus a few medications.

A couple of things came to mind while reading what you wrote. You mentioned that the hair you're seeing is only on your shower screen once you're back home. Is it possible that the place you were staying away from home just didn't have a drain hair catcher? (Edit: I realize I skipped a paragraph in your post—I went back and saw you brought this up already...regardless, if you aren't seeing real thinning when you look at or touch your hair, then it's likely just the shedding you've always done naturally, which would make it normal.)

My other thought: if* you truly are shedding way more than usual and it's heading toward thinning, the culprit is probably the earlier weight loss you described finally catching up with you—exactly what happened in my case—rather than the tirz on its own. I'm convinced that when hair loss is tied to tirz, it comes from poor diets and weight loss stripping the body of stored essential nutrients, not from the tirz molecule itself. That said, you could make the case that without tirz there'd be no diet changes or weight loss to set off the shedding, so the two remain linked. What I'm getting at is that this is something you can control or prevent—it isn't simply a guaranteed price we pay for using tirz.

When I'm traveling I don't use a drain catcher. Usually I'm gone for 3 months, then back home for 3 months.

At home I'd already been using a drain catcher, and before I started this diet I never really found much of my own hair in it — though I always saw my wife's, which is why I was watching closely. So it's clearly been happening since I began dieting.

I'll be honest: 4 months into the Tirz experiment, I'm starting to see my hair thin out. It just doesn't feel as full as it used to. I've quit the extreme undereating; looking through my LoseIt app, I'm now at 1100-1200 calories per day, which is 50% more than during the rapid weight loss phase back in Dec/Jan.

Truthfully, if I go much past 1200 calories a day, the weight loss halts. After 40+ years of "dieting", I think I've trained my body well to get by on 1500 cal/day.

Other things could be at play. For the last 2 months I've been pinning GHK-Cu every day, and Wolverine for the past month. I'm about to add VIP because of blood pressure control issues.

So what nutrient am I lacking that would stop more hair loss? I get close to 100g protein daily (mostly chicken or fish, sometimes beef). Protein shakes don't work for me — drinking one stalls the diet. I saw that happen over and over when I was away last time. I also eat plenty of vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, salads, snap peas, Brussels sprouts, asparagus.
