Reta and food noise

Quatroskin said:

Towards the end of the week—roughly 1 or 2 days before my next injection—I notice food noise creeping in. My assumption is that this happens because I've kept my dose at 2mg per week, since I'm trying to remain on the lowest amount possible. Even so, when I do sit down to eat, I fill up fast, and the urge for sugar and other junk has either disappeared or I've conditioned myself to avoid those foods.
7 weeks in, my experience lines up with that. I moved up to 1.5mg on Mon and then again on Fri, but it brought on some skin sensitivity that wasn't pleasant. These days I split it into 1mg on Mon and 1mg on Fri, the side effects are gone, and I'm still actively dropping weight - 17lbs lost since 2/14

I’ve been experimenting with reta despite tirz suiting me just fine. Typical researcher behavior, right?

What I notice is stronger cravings, and meals smell and taste nicer…yet fullness hits almost immediately. I actually enjoy enjoying food, if that makes sense.

Also, the weight loss went further than I wanted. BMI is now at the lower end of 20, which wasn’t my goal.

Body fat percentage remains decent, though I’ve added a bit of fat from being lazy.

It seems reta lets me hold onto roughly 10 lbs of loss without changing anything.

My guess…if I returned to plain tirz with sema bumps when needed, I’d put back around 10 lbs without doing anything differently. Just a guess. From a metabolic standpoint, I think that’s the glucagon effect for me. Any further and I’ll join the group who had to stop because they became underweight.

Anyway..the question concerns food noise. In my case the noise isn’t severe, but it’s louder than on tirz. And that extra noise never appeared on the scale—it actually did the reverse.

I wouldn’t call myself a super responder, but I’ve never needed to exceed tirz 5, reta 4, and sema bumps of 0.25. I tried survo and cag but saw no difference. They all work.

That’s my 2 cents

What are your thoughts on how Reta compares with MJ when it comes to food noise and appetite suppression?

Last year I was on MJ for 10 months. It worked really well for silencing food noise, and my appetite was almost completely gone. I’ve come across differing accounts from other people suggesting Reta might not produce that same effect. I began Reta at 2mg and have been on it for 2 weeks now, but I haven’t noticed anything substantial. Should I give it more time, or is this what Reta is normally like?
How long it takes can depend on the MJ dose you're on. I went from 2.5 mg MJ directly to roughly 2.5 of Reta, and the initial 2 weeks were fine. At around the 1 month point now, though, the physical fullness hits so hard that eating almost anything makes me feel sick.

As for the drop in "food noise," that MJ effect likely won't return until you move up to a bigger dose. Still, at this moment I'm basically indifferent to food, like a robot lol. It works quite differently, but for me the outcome is superior. A longer half life, a lower cost, and a bit more energy are nice too.

Unfortunately I'm going back to Manjaro since I'm in Japan now and syringes aren't available. Hang in there, I'm envious lol.

Almost 2 months in on reta sourced from a compounding pharmacy. Right now I take 3mg weekly, Sunday mornings. Appetite suppression comes on strong Sunday night and lasts through Thursday lunch most weeks. Once Thursday evening rolls around, that feeling of being "held back" fades. I began at 219 and dropped roughly 16 pounds during February. Curious to see where this month lands. Since body recomp is a major focus, the number on the scale doesn't carry much weight for me. I've had 2 inbody scans done, with a third plus a dexa scan scheduled tomorrow. A tip worth sharing: check nearby colleges, they sometimes offer dexa scans at steep discounts. Mine is 75 rather than 200 at other providers. The glucagon component intrigues me. Studies at higher doses suggest it becomes more active and such. Still, chasing a high dose just to find out what happens doesn't appeal to me when I'm already losing. I eat around 1500 calories. Lifting 5 days per week, no cardio. Hitting my protein target is a struggle, though an extra 50 grams daily would put me in a much better position.
question that might be silly: schools for medicine, with a physical therapy emphasis...?

There’s no dumb question at all! Tomorrow I’m visiting a college that’s just an ordinary, standard college. It offers a kinesiology program, and that’s the department I’ll be going to. Back when I lived in a different state, a college in town had the same setup. You might need to do some googling, but I’d bet that if you’re in a reasonably sized city, you’ll find one. I’m getting the dexa so I can compare it directly with the in body and see how close the two are. That scale lies! Lol

On MJ I reached 7.5mg, and food didn't even cross my mind—sometimes I had to make myself eat. For the long haul, I really believe Reta will suit me better, particularly since I'm working out much more now, so I'm hoping that's where I'll notice the payoff!

Isn't it possible to get an insulin pen that you load on your own? I'm aware of a few sellers in the UK who offer them together with cartridges, though I've got no idea about Japan lol!

About 2 years ago, I got a dexa done, and right after that I tried the large inbody machine. The results lined up almost exactly. Once I had a few additional dexa scans under my belt, it hit me that I needed to keep my fasting or non-fasting condition consistent. The gap was huge between my very first visit, which was early in the day before I'd eaten breakfast, and the next one, which happened right after I'd had 15 wings, cheese fries, and a 40oz Diet Coke. Or something like that lol. It ruined the numbers. The first dexa and inbody, the ones whose readings were essentially the same, were both taken early and with nothing in my stomach.

Haha. Yeah, I'll be getting both done this morning on an empty stomach.

The huge discrepancy between inbody and dexa came out to a 10% gap in body fat percentage 🤯. March only saw 7 pounds come off, while February—my first month on Reta—was different. Started at 225 in mid January. Now at 198.

When it comes to quieting food noise, tirz beats reta. Many people combine reta with a reduced tirz dose. Others also include cagri to help with food noise.
That's precisely my approach too, mate — I reckon it's likely the optimal route.

My time on Reta has passed the 12 month mark, and Cag only entered the picture a short while ago.

Even at my initial 1mg dose of Reta, the suppression of food noise was fairly strong. The doses then moved up: 1.5mg, then 2mg, then 3mg, and I'm at 4mg now. The noise itself never became overwhelming — the only trigger for increasing was sensing it fade slightly ahead of the next shot. Titration took care of that.

Even so, some noise remains. It just isn't loud enough to be a problem. Prior to Reta, I'd spent roughly 9 months on a 1500 calorie diet, so refusing food had become familiar, difficult as it was. What Reta added was exactly the small push required to blunt food's hypnotic pull, haha. Whether further titration will be needed, I can't say yet. This whole journey is only 1 month old for me.

Getting syringes without a prescription is against the law. It's really annoying—you're allowed to bring in lots of prescription drugs here without one, yet needles are where they put their foot down, lol.

I'm aware of folks using Reta in this country, but when it comes to how they obtain their syringes, they keep quiet.

Wow, that's completely backward lol, you'll have to track down a connection in the aesthetics field or a similar spot who can sort you out 😂

That comes down to the roughly 6-day half-life. I do find myself curious about how much variation exists from one actual supplier or lab to the next. I came across some material on a TG like platform suggesting one "hits" harder than another.

I'm the kind of person who does things myself and is always looking for a way around a problem. Given how low your dose is, my move would be to put Reta in a nasal spray bottle along with some saline, then try using it maybe 1 or 2 times per week. I don't know of anyone who has done that, but rather than not having Reta at all, I'd test it out.

A buddy of mine over in Brazil has a testosterone script, and he can bring syringes in. When I asked him what the process would look like, he gave me a look like I was some kind of crack head. From what I can tell, most trt clinics around here won't let you self inject anyway, so that option's off the table lol.

On top of that, if I were on trt I doubt I'd put this much work into staying lean lol. And the cost is roughly 3 times what Manjaro runs. Guess I need to go find some diabetic friends who can hook me up.

As far as I know, those are subject to the same limitations as regular insulin syringes, unless what you're bringing in is a prefilled pen.

For years I struggled with binge eating. My hunger never went away, and neither did my urge to eat. It never let up. Often I felt shame, since others viewed me as greedy and a glutton. If food was there, I was eating it. Food occupied my thoughts all day long, and however many times I attempted to restrain myself, the mental pull was incredibly powerful.

Reta rescued me. At last I can say NO.

During month 1, the only change was feeling full fast, which for me was already enormous progress, since never in my life had I felt full. Then month 2 arrived with 1/1.5mg, and I didn't even notice when it happened, but one day food stopped occupying my thoughts. Cravings are gone, and so is the loss of control. Eating becomes something I must remind myself to do, and the healthier choice is always available to me over the greasier one. I now have self-control over myself and my desires. No two journeys match, but from MY experience, I feel grateful for reta!

Month 1: between 0.5 mg and 1 mg.

Month 2: 1.0 mg to 2 mg.
