After spending years struggling with weight, and only seeing results at specific points while on peps, my weight has gone up and down substantially. Time and again, the number on the scale would drop and I would feel thrilled, only to run my BMI and find it still said overweight. I have gone through stall phases lasting months, even at standard non-building phase reta doses, and there have been stretches when tracking calories at fairly large deficits produced no change at all.

When I entered this morning's scale reading into a BMI calculator, it came back as normal for the first time. Even back when I was around 19, that would not have been true. I realize BMI is not all that precise, but it still feels good.

Trust the process!

Nice work! Reaching that point is such a thrill 💯🎉🎉🎉 For me, it was a major milestone. You have every reason to feel incredibly proud of yourself!

Thank you! I really am. Sadly, I jumped the gun and picked up new jeans too soon, so here I am again with jeans that are too big until I decide the moment has come to genuinely put money into a whole new set of clothes lol 🤷‍♂️

Nice work reaching your target, though to be fair BMI formulas have been considered obsolete for a long time now. Plenty of bodybuilders would get sorted into the "overweight" bucket. Back when I served in the Navy, I recall plenty of folks needing the tape test since their BMI fell outside regs, even though they were perfectly fit lol.

Even so, I managed to outsmart it, haha

That's a wonderful issue to be dealing with!!

That's great!! When my BMI finally landed in the average range, I felt genuinely thrilled — never mind that I'd gone off before about how dumb BMI measurements are

Nice work!

Among us, who here does bodybuilding?

Was my second example not visible to you? It holds true across the board, like this: on the BMI chart, a person measuring 5'8 is classified as overweight starting at 170lbs. Meanwhile, men who are 5'8 in the US weigh roughly 180-190lbs on average.

Lino, that's fantastic — congrats!! News like this must have you absolutely buzzing.

I'm looking forward to making a post just like this myself in about 18months. Even so, reading yours really motivates me, so keep it up! 💪🏻

That's great to hear. It does me good to read this. I've been stuck for several weeks now. That kind of plateau can be a real mental burden. It's easy to get irrational and start overdoing things—adjusting doses, cutting food intake, and so on.

Back when I was younger, health insurance companies set the target weight. They'd give a healthy range based on how tall you were and whether you were male or female. For instance, a man at 5'8" had an ideal range of 139 - 169, while a woman of the same height had 126 - 154.

These days, BMI says a weight from 122 - 164 counts as "healthy" no matter your gender. A thread popped up recently asking how folks chose their goal weights, and plenty of them went with BMI. There must have been quite a few 5'8" people in that thread, since their goals landed around 164 or lower. I went with 160 as my starting goal for that exact reason. It's amusing that so many of us at once think BMI is a poor metric yet still rely on it to set our targets.

Regardless, congratulations on entering the official healthy range! That's a great achievement.
