Hey all,

I'm 3 months into using Reta and it's been smooth sailing so far. Down 7 kg (roughly 15.4 lbs), staying on top of my protein and calorie targets, and I'm in the gym 5 days a week on top of cardio. No complaints at the moment.

But I'm thinking ahead — what actually happens once you come off these injections, whether that's Retatrutide, Semaglutide, or Tirzepatide? I'd really like to hear how it went for others on a few points:

Appetite: I keep seeing people say the hunger returns hard, like food is on your mind nonstop. Did that happen to you? How intense was it?

How You Stopped: Did you quit abruptly, or did you reduce the dose gradually / space the injections further apart?

Keeping the Weight Off: Where are you at now? Were you able to hold your weight steady, or did it come back?

How long has it been since your last dose, and how did you handle the switch? Appreciate any stories!

For my own part, I moved to a low dose of Tirz for upkeep, mainly to keep food noise in check, and I intend to stay on it for the long haul since it makes a big difference in how I live day to day. That approach strikes me as sensible: as you approach your target, begin reducing gradually and figure out the smallest amount that keeps your weight steady. Another method some use for tapering is to stretch the time between doses. Moving from Reta over to Tirz could be worth considering too, since it appears gentler on the body. Triz has been linked to various other health advantages, so I can't see a drawback. Reta will probably show similar effects.

Whichever route you take, my suggestion is to map out a long-term strategy; those who shed pounds with GLPs often regain it when they simply quit. During weight loss, people typically drop fat along with muscle. When the weight comes back, it's mostly fat that returns, particularly visceral fat. Because of that, cycling on and off a GLP is generally not beneficial for your health.

I'm 5lb away from my goal of 55lbs, so I've begun considering this. My plan is probably to taper gradually, going from 8mg down to 4, and then possibly 2mg. That part will just depend. Since I have plenty of Reta, I intend to remain on it for as long as I can.

Your outcome really hinges on the level of hunger and food preoccupation you had prior to dropping the weight.

Myself, I can drop 15 pounds just by taking a shit, so it sounds to me like you'll be completely fine.

There isn't a lot out there on quitting these meds, mainly since hardly anyone here intends to. Fingers crossed this stuff holds up over the long haul LOL.

Based on what I've heard, you should figure on gaining roughly 30lbs back once you stop.

Tirzepatide is something I intend to stay on permanently — the advantages it offers go well beyond shedding pounds. I haven't reached my target yet, but once I do, there appear to be 2 dominant approaches: either stretching the interval between shots (some accounts mention getting down to a single dose per month) or slowly reducing the amount until I hit a level where things stop holding steady. According to the research, the chances of successfully coming off it aren't in your favor. Regaining the weight is a genuine, well-documented possibility.

So does that mean you're completely full of it?💩 🤣 🤣

I used to be full of it, but after dropping a 15 pound 💩 I'm feeling waaaaay better. If I only had 15 pounds to shed, I could knock that out while sleeping with my eyes shut. The original poster doesn't appear to struggle with an out-of-control, unhealthy bond with food, so I'd guess their poops are maybe just 1/4 pound each.

There are stretches where the scale won't budge for 2 weeks, then after a big bowel movement, 3 lbs vanish.

move up in dose at the slowest pace you can manage

your appetite is going to return, and it will come back hard

it's going to strike you like a massive truck

simply prepare yourself for that

100%

When it comes to keeping weight off after you stop taking GLPs, the numbers look just as grim as they do for any other diet approach. I've lived through that myself. Fingers crossed that staying on a maintenance dose long term turns out to be as safe as it currently seems. And fingers crossed that affordable access doesn't dry up.

For the past 6 months I've been taking 15mg of Tirz, and that's been my maintenance approach so far. I also introduced 1 mg of Eloralintide. Those kits won't just disappear on their own. 😉

The stockpile I've got is exactly what's bugging me. For around 5lbs I'll keep taking 8mg, but my wife's been at 8mg too and she claims it's stopped doing anything. Since I'm still dropping 1-2lbs/week, I'm sure the Reta isn't the problem. The catch is she won't get on a scale even just to track things, so I've got zero clue what's actually going on. Believe me, there's no chance she has weighed herself or ever will. She's moving up to 9mg next, since we've both been at 8 for 5 weeks.

The only folks I'm aware of who managed to stop GLPs for good were just slightly overweight because of poor routines, and the medication assisted them in kicking those routines.

Every study I've come across indicates that after stopping, weight comes back almost to where it began. And with ongoing dosing, about 80 percent of people maintained their weight loss, meaning even among those still taking a GLP, roughly 20 percent put some weight back on.

So why would someone even want to stop GLPs? New advantages keep emerging. Better insulin sensitivity leads to numerous positive downstream effects, reduced inflammation, and lately I think it's double the survival rates for some cancers. With grey, it's super cheap.

Tough to respond, since GLP's at last let me bulk and cut rather than the old cycle of binges that added bad weight, then cutting to get back in shape, over and over. Right after a cut is when you're most set up to build muscle. For me, maintenance is typically just a brief period following a bulk.

I figured I'd taper down to a lower dose, but it looks like I need the current dose just to hold steady.

Until now, the idea of staying on it long-term—or indefinitely—hadn't crossed my mind, but it looks like I'll need to consider that. Still, I have some advantages: I've never been seriously overweight, and I've consistently exercised. My issue is simply that I enjoy eating large amounts, which led to a bit of extra weight, so I turned to the Reta diet since it's less of a struggle. In the past, I followed a standard diet much like this one—the difference now is that I don't feel hungry. Once this diet ends, though, I won't ever do a bulk like the one I'm doing at present; it's far too draining and consumes so much time. After the diet, I will certainly lower my dose, or perhaps just use it every 2 weeks.

The reason is that in every trial, participants went straight from a therapeutic dose down to nothing.

Ramping up and then abruptly quitting makes no sense at all. That's not how we handle other medications. With SSRIs, blood pressure drugs… any long-term medicine, you taper off just like you taper on.

If someone chooses or has to stay on this indefinitely, that's their call, no problem. But the studies get far too much weight when all they demonstrated was that a single approach to discontinuation didn't work. Peptides can be stopped in more ways than one. /rant.

I WAS full of it, then I took a 15 pound 💩 and feel soooooo much better. I can only imagine just having to lose 15 pounds, could do that in my sleep with my eyes closed. OP doesnt seem to have an out of control unhealthy relationship with food so id imagine his/her shits are prolly only 1/4 pound or so.
