I've been putting off getting an epi-pen for a long time and have kept forgetting to do it, but this week there was a thread on Peppy's about someone who went into stage 3 anaphylaxis shock after injecting some tirzepatide. I really don't want to relay the particulars, but will say that the person involved is okay. He got to the hospital and is recovering, but it really put the fuel under my butt this time.

Well, in that thread, there is a link to a way to obtain Neffy virtually. I think that this is "sponsored" by the drug manufacturer. But is was so simple and involved no money or meeting with anyone online that I thought I would share here:

neffy® (epinephrine nasal spray)

There some simple questions, you then get "referred" to a prescriber, and then they transfer the Rx to your pharmacy. If you have insurance, it will generally cover the cost. My co-pay is zero with a savings card the pharmacy applied. As far as the timeline, it looked like this:

8/31 9:31 pm submitted form on Neffy’s website

9/2 9:00 am Rx ready at CVS

Wanted to do this, but my states BCBS shows on their site as blocked? Tried to setup a provider visit and only 2 available dates, both latest next week. ?? Gave up

The process that I went through didn't ask to make an appointment, it just said that my record was referred to a provider for evaluation. It must depend on the insurance plan. Sorry this didn't work out for you.

Lots of people report having good luck with Amazon primary care option calling in epi-pens. I think that the cost is only $29 for a virtual visit. Not quite as good as free, but the route I'll likely take to get a pen. It looks like with Prime that the Rx could be free. If you don't have Prime, you can sign up and cancel and keep it for 30 days.

Amazon Pharmacy: EPINEPHRINE 2PAK (EPIPEN) 0.3 MG AUTO-INJ

Transfer your prescription for EPINEPHRINE 2PAK (EPIPEN) 0.3 MG AUTO-INJ on Amazon Pharmacy. FREE SHIPPING for Prime members.

They want $19 for a virtual visit due to my insurer. Tricare must have different rules?

Understood, thank you. Please note, due to certain federal regulations, this virtual visit cannot be waived due to your insurance coverage.#-understood-thank-you-please-note-...nnot-be-waived-due-to-your-insurance-coverage

I didn't notice this when I did this on Monday night, but the very first question they ask is about insurance, so if you have Tircare, VA, CHIP, IHS, Medicaid or Medicare there is a co-pay for the virtual visit of $19, which seems like an atribrary charge and nothing related to those types of policies that I could find. That sucks. Although $19 is still cheaper than most of the copay on televisits that I done.

It went off without a hitch, so thanks for the tip! With insurance, they handed me 4 for $0. Figured it made sense to keep some on hand while I look into things, just in case. Can't go wrong playing it safe!

Yeah, having it on hand beats regretting it later. Good to hear it went smoothly for you. Seeing your post jogged my memory that a refill was waiting for me, so I went ahead and put it through online.

Thanks!! Did all of you do it online? Next time I visit, can I simply request that my GP write the prescription?
