I’ve been working on losing weight, and I keep noticing that right before my period arrives, my body retains a ton of water.

The scale can jump by 3–4 lbs, and when I measure my waist it’s up about 5–6 cm. Honestly, it makes me feel as if I’ve put on a lot of weight, even though I realize it’s likely just water retention.

This tends to begin roughly a week ahead of my period and sticks around while I’m on it, and it’s super frustrating when I’m trying to keep tabs on my progress.

Is anyone else dealing with this on GLP-1s? What do you do about the bloating and the temporary weight gain?😭

Cut back on the sodium, move gently, and stay off the scale on those days — it's nothing but temporary water, so don't panic about it!

Same thing happens to me — to be honest, once my period starts I put the scale away. I take a full week off from checking any progress. Once my period is over, everything goes back to how it was and I look snatched again, and I never actually gain weight.

It drove me insane in the past and really got to me, and what helped was getting lymphatic drainage massages.

Be kind to yourself x

Thanks! Lately I’ve really been keeping an eye on sodium. To offset the added sodium, I’ve been including more foods high in potassium.

Ugh, my cycle is here and right now even tirz isn’t enough to quiet the cravings. Sugar and salt—I just can’t get enough. The upside is that there isn’t much junk in the house, but I’m still less in control than I normally am—this cycle is beastly. Thank goodness it isn’t like this every month! I feel like I belong in a vintage Midol commercial. I won’t step on the scale until it’s wrapping up and I’ve had a few days of not munching on everything.

Track your weight during the week that follows your period, not the one right before it. Feel free to include whatever encouragement you like, but your body is still going to do its monthly thing regardless

Yeah, I'll own up to taking it too far. I keep reaching for my measuring tape on a daily basis, and I'm hopping on the scale far more than I ought to.

OMG, same here. Yesterday evening after supper I caved and ate a dessert and a banana, yet I still felt like I could keep going. I made myself take a cucumber instead 🤣

Yep, same here. I figured my period was basically done yesterday, so I got on the scale expecting the number to drop back, but it still hasn’t gone back to what it was before…

That's 100% expected. My habit is to give it a few days once my period has ended. Stepping on the scale right around your period means water retention and inflammation are still in play. What helps me is upping my water intake along with electrolytes. And while you're dropping weight, your body can cling to water for a while — then a "whoosh" shows up after a plateau.

I'm 42 and my periods are still regular, but during the week leading up to it I can carry an extra 2 kilos of pure nothing. Then once that week passes, it feels like 5 kilos have come off 🤣 I've adjusted my routine just to keep my own satisfaction needs happy!

This crossed my mind recently, though I had no clue who to ask, haha.

My weight can climb by 5-7lbs more, then it vanishes like magic once my period wraps up.

During the week before my period, I typically turn into a ravenous monster. Still, Tirz has managed to keep some of that in check, which I’m grateful for!

Absolutely, I can’t wait for that moment when the number on the scale finally drops again!!!
