Joe Rogan and Brigham Buhler discuss health, peptides in the spotlight

I found it interesting. The first half got my attention, and I may wrap up the rest tomorrow. One thing that seemed strange: the peptide expert didn’t give the > 500 lb jelly roll a weight loss peptide?? Instead, he devised some kind of protocol that led to a 250lb loss. They also appeared to frame glp-1s negatively, almost as if it isn’t a peptide that has aided more people than every other peptide put together. That felt pretty weird to me.

Still interesting, but I’m not sure I trust this guy.

My functional MD is still convinced it comes down to garbage in, garbage out — eat clean and exercise, and GLP's won't be necessary. For a lot of people that holds true, but not everyone, especially with weight. The genetic testing segment stood out to me. I've used both Tirz and Reta. With TIrz, nothing happened — my insulin resistance went up and I didn't drop a single pound. Reta brought my cholesterol down, lowered IR, and cut my A1c by .1. I have shed a few pounds, but it's slow going. I'd really like to understand what's happening. I'm already at 10mg, and only at 10 did I see any weight come off or notice any appetite suppression.
What about giving sema a shot? It works really well for cutting appetite. I'm on 1 mg and I struggle to eat much at all.
Might give it a shot. Used it for 4 weeks without noticing any effect. Tirzepatide was part of my routine for 5 months, reaching 12.5. Considering stacking cag or perhaps survo.

There's nothing mystical about GLPs — they don't melt weight away on their own. What they do is blunt hunger, and that ought to push you into a calorie shortfall, which then forces your body to burn stored fat, and that is what produces weight loss.

If the scale isn't budging, a calorie shortfall may be missing. Perhaps adding more movement (extra steps) would help.

If hunger isn't being blunted at all, something else could be going on (a poor-quality reta batch? / not being a hyper responder to GLPs?). It's also possible that a larger dose is needed, plus some time for it to build up in your system...

How long have you been using Reta?

This is the biggest problem I've run into with GLP's. The whole point is that they should cut your appetite. I spent 5 months on Tirz and got as high as 12.5. After the very first 2.5 shot, I woke up the next day with zero appetite. That stuck around for 4 days, then absolutely NOTHING for the following 5 months. Since last July I've been on Reta, and by mid-Dec I had worked up to 10mg/week. I was low on supply and rationing, so I held at 10mg for 2 months, and then out of nowhere the suppression kicked in. Once my order arrived I considered bumping it up, but I kept at 10 until now, and the suppression is fading again, so an increase is coming. Eventually I worry it will stop working altogether, and I still have a lot of weight to lose with little progress so far. Now that the weather is warmer I've been walking more, but that usually makes me hungrier.

Is your 10mg dose taken as a single weekly injection? Splitting it into 2 doses per week, or spacing it out even more, helps some people...

My routine is 5mg split into 2 sessions each week. At the beginning, I was injecting just 1 time per week, then roughly 3 months back I switched to 2 times per week. Another thing: whenever I work out, hunger kicks in, and if I skip eating, I end up with terrible headaches that make me feel sick.

I'm not a physician, though what you're describing sounds a lot like hypoglycemia. Have you had any labs drawn?

If you haven't, the least I check is:

  • Hemoglobin A1C
  • Fasting plasma glucose

It's unfortunate that for a few of you, it stops being effective eventually. In my case, the hunger I get from my medication is intense, yet at standard doses it appears to be manageable.

Late April is when I'll get tested. Glucose came in at 100 and my A1c was 5.5 last time. In range, though not ideal. Berberine is something I take ahead of meals, and after starting Reta I attempted to stop it — yet any small meal, even one containing only fat and protein, leaves me nodding off, so I've kept taking the berberine. For a month I wore a CGM hoping to see what was happening with my glucose, but nothing unusual appeared. Exercise is the sole thing that gets my glucose down into the mid 80's.

On his previous visit, he voiced frustration that large pharmaceutical companies were looking to step in and seize control of peptides. In this latest episode, he's actually calling for tighter rules, given that an increasing number of people are turning to gray-market sources. The two of them also got into stem cell treatments, saying those need to be available within the US, yet they mention directing patients down to Mexico and Panama for those procedures... feels like he's arguing both sides at once.

Your A1c and fasting glucose indicate pre-diabetes. Those figures only show the problem after it has been building for a while. Do you use a GLP?

Yeah. Tirz gave me nothing, while Reta has done more for my heart than anything else. Barely any weight came off with either one

A genuinely solid episode featuring Rogan alongside Brigham Buhler — I'd say it was well worth tuning in. Their approach leans toward addressing the symptom instead of the root cause…..
