Hey all!

I’ve just signed up because my reta journey is set to start before this week is over 😀

To give you the full picture: I’m in my mid-20s, and I’ve dealt with obesity for basically as long as I can remember. Throughout school I was always on sports teams, I made efforts to keep moving and eat well, and I went through plenty of diets and “tricks,” yet getting to a normal weight for my age and height never happened. The main culprit is my food addiction and binge eating episodes, but that’s a topic for another time.

Calorie deficits and consistent exercise have brought me only limited success, because the food noise ALWAYS wins. Every single time. The highest number I ever saw was probably during junior year of high school, around ~280 pounds. That was nearly a decade back, and these days I’m at 212 pounds. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to get below that number. My progress clearly hasn’t been linear, but it is still progress.

My hope is that this path finally gets me under 200 pounds, something that hasn’t happened since middle school. I’m hopeful this will be the nail in the coffin for my food noise, and that I’ll start to see some real progress towards my goals.

Thanks so much for having me!

Wishing you the best as you get started! Is reta the first GLP you've used, or have you tried any others before? I'll be relocating to NYC shortly.

Hi! I'll be relocating to NYC before long, so it's great to come across another person based in NYC.

Tuesday's lab work revealed I'm sitting at exactly 270 lbs. I've never tipped the scales this high before. Sure, I've carried extra weight for most of my life, but this number is absurd. About 9 years back I was in solid shape, hovering around 12-15% body fat, and even then the scale read roughly 210 lbs. These days I'd guess I'm nearer to 30% bf.

All of that brings me to this point... do your best to NEVER let the scale dictate your feelings. It'll deceive you and drag you down over not hitting some arbitrary figure. The real issue isn't the number itself—it's whatever is creating that number (hope that comes across clearly).

You and I are definitely walking this path side by side. Keep giving yourself credit for everything you've managed so far, even when it feels like nothing's moving. This is far from simple, but you're capable of it! Plus, there's a whole community of people who get it cheering you on!

This reply truly resonates with me. Doing my best to keep an optimistic outlook throughout everything — thanks so much!!
