Roughly 6 weeks into tirzepatide, my gallbladder quit on me, though at that moment I had no clue what was happening.

A HIDA scan close to 4 months afterward revealed only 4% function.

Honestly, it had likely been declining for years. Still, dropping 30 lbs across about 50 days was probably the final straw.

Every day I felt awful. The pain was severe. No doctor could pin it down. I became certain it was cancer or a tumor of some sort. Ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs — I went through all of them. No stones appeared. Nothing clear. Around 2 p.m. daily, bile would begin to back up and I'd feel terrible.

It reached a point where I wasn't great company, including on here. Some folks called me a total asshole!

Following ER trips, loads of bloodwork, and basically every test there is, I at last got approved for a HIDA scan. That solved it. Gallbladder ejection fraction: 4%.

I'm roughly 9 days past surgery now and doing fairly well. For ages I doubted it was my gallbladder since every image looked "normal" — no stones, no obvious harm. But dysfunction won't always appear on routine scans.

Anyone curious about the buildup, how I got diagnosed, the operation, or recovering — I'll gladly pass along what I picked up the hard way.

And now that im back! Chasing another 600mg stash of reta, 400mg Mots-c and 24iu HGH kits. RN looks like ERP's China warehouse has the best deal on that shopping list atm and they got me coa's for all of it, about to pull.the trigger.

Happy Tuesday you beautiful bitches!!!

Good to hear you're recovering. It's worrying that the GB didn't appear abnormal on blood work or the first scans. I appreciate the details.

Alright, this is a bit alarming. Personally, I haven't experienced any serious problems from Tirz. In your opinion, could this have been triggered by the Tirz (or maybe impurities that came along with it), or was it simply an unrelated event that coincidentally occurred when you began Tirz?

WOW !!! I'm just glad things have improved for you.. being in pain all the time is awful.

"You don't need no stinkin' gallbladder!"

Good that it's out...I went through the same situation after losing weight quickly several years back. Doctors kept brushing me off until my gallbladder turned gangrenous and disintegrated during surgery....that caused sepsis, and then septic shock.

Anyway, things can only improve from here, and you should notice a big difference now that the faulty gallbladder is gone.

No, no, no. From what I understand, my gallbladder was already in bad shape long before I started tirzepatide. The real culprit behind gallbladder problems is rapid, drastic weight loss—not the tirzepatide itself. It just so happens that tirzepatide is what caused me to drop a lot of weight quickly.

Good to hear you're recovering. I have a quick question: what was the timeframe they gave you for stopping the glp1 before the operation? I've heard it's 1 week?

Good lord! You made it through the absolute worst outcome, I'm so relieved you're still with us!!!

Mine was nowhere near as bad as what you went through — you had to have been feeling absolutely awful.

Honestly...the one upside to septic shock was that I barely knew what was happening for the majority of it. Gallbladder problems are serious...waiting too long meant the gallbladder became gangrenous and disintegrated during removal...leftover gallstones blocked the bile duct, which led to infection and sepsis...

It's important for people to understand that gallbladder complications are a genuine risk with fast weight loss. Excellent post, raises awareness.

Alright, this is absolutely insane. When I asked my surgeon how long I should wait, he told me to check with my doctor. My doctor said 2 weeks. Fine. Then I had a phone call with anesthesia, and the person on the other end said 2 weeks was fine too.

So, surgery day arrives. The surgeon stops by to see me. Everything's good. Then the anesthesiologist comes in, I brought up the tirz, and he said I could have actually stayed on the shot without skipping a dose before the operation. That's a true story.

I'm still glad I stopped, because after surgery and the oxys I was really constipated and the last thing I needed was any more trouble pooping. But yeah. I'd seen someone else on Reddit say the same thing, that the dr. told them not to miss a shot. But after reading about aspirating food into my lungs... plus I didn't believe it.

I ended up taking 3 weeks off, gained 2 pounds during that time, and already stacking reta and tirz and I'm 2 pounds under my last lowest weight. I like to fast and without the GB it should be much much easier

Thanks — for months I was hunting for answers, and Reddit barely has anything on this. There's a big post from me there now, so if anyone suspects gallbladder trouble but their doctor can't figure it out, they can find it.

Good to hear things are improving and that they at last identified the problem! When I was 19, I had my gallbladder removed, and the only thing I recall from recovery was the gas pressure sitting in my chest and shoulder. The advice they gave me was simply to hug a pillow. 😂 There is also a large scar in my belly button from the operation, though I healed quickly. Wishing you a full return to 100 percent soon.

A number of fairly recent studies indicate that using GLP's before surgery — across a wide range of procedure types — is linked to fewer complications. I'm not certain about abdominal surgery specifically; because of changes in GI motility, it could be trickier or carry more risk. Still, since I came across multiple studies on this over the last few months, solid answers should arrive before too long.

Anything involving anaesthesia calls for some caution, since slower gastric emptying raises the odds that food or liquid remains in your stomach at a point when it ought to be empty. I took extra precautions and avoided drinking for several hours beyond what was required ahead of an endoscopy, yet fluid was still present in my stomach when they checked. In 1 case I halted GLP's 2 weeks beforehand; in the other I did not — and it made no difference.

I have read every horror story about fasting like a monk for 24+ hours before surgery nowadays, since GLP-1s put your stomach into a glacial crawl. Me? My blood pressure came down to normal levels within two months on Tirz, and my doc stares at the numbers like I found a cheat code for hypertension (j/k) . But let's be honest... who really knows what is doing the heavy lifting here? I have been jabbed with so many peptides that I am pretty much a human piñata at some kid's birthday party from hell. Those little peptide gremlins are swinging wildly, jabbing me from all sides, screaming 'WHERE'S THE CANDY?!' while I just dangle there going, 'Mate, if you spot any health gains in there, KEEP 'EM they're clearly doing overtime!'

Good to hear you're recovering well—wishing you a speedy recovery. As for fasting after gallbladder removal, I wouldn't recommend it. The gallbladder stores bile produced by the liver, concentrating it until the body detects fat in the intestines. Once it's gone, bile just keeps trickling into the digestive tract nonstop. If you don't eat, that bile will end up irritating your digestive tract. I'm not a doctor, so look into it further.

Mine came out last summer. Nearly identical scenario, except no GLP1s involved. Honestly, I felt relief once it was gone! Wishing you a speedy recovery
