Food noise reduction VS appetite suppression. Please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks it's different issues?

Slouched on the couch at 10p watching Europeans eat American BBQ on YouTube is enough to generate food noise. Wanting carbs after training hard and probably under-eating could also be filed as food noise, but in that setting I read it as biological feedback. What stops me eating the extra carbs is hunger suppression.

That's my way of looking at it anyway.

What Reta removed for me was the food noise - the nightly urge to strip my cupboards bare. In the middle of a cut Id regularly put away 6000cals and then mope about it for the next 5 days. Today I ate 3 triangles of a toblerone and put the rest back, which I have never once done in my life.

Appetite is a different story - hunger still shows up when a meal is due, though I fill up sooner than before.
That must feel like a weight off! Really pleased for you!! Had you used a different glp before this? And did it work right away?

This is my first real post beyond the introduction, so go easy on me.

I have been taking T for some time. Hunger has never been an issue for me, not before and not now, but I do live with relentless food noise together with habitual and compulsive eating. When I read that Tirz also helps with addictive behaviour I picked it as my first try.

On tirz I can feel the appetite suppression working, yet I still eat out of habit. And by eat I mean a full binge..It feels awful, but being full has never stopped me from overeating, and the driver is entirely food noise rather than genuine appetite. The trouble is that whenever I read discussions about this, the two ideas get used as if they were the same thing, which leaves me unsure whether anything I read online can be trusted.

Cagri has caught my eye, but again people describe it as a fix for food noise and then mention the nausea and the total absence of hunger, which is a different thing altogether. What I want gone is the craving, the endless chatter about food, the dopamine chase; hunger matters far less to me. I could take less of it or the same, but none of that helps while the noise is still there.
New here as well, and what hit me straight away on Reta at 2mg was strong satiety plus a strange drop in food noise (strange as in something I had never experienced before). The sweet desserts, fried chicken fingers, French fries and cookies the family leaves out — I can walk right past them and not put a single one in my mouth. I <know> how odd that is: I look at the food and find it odd that I am not eating any of it.

Could be the meds. Could be the placebo of being on the meds and watching other things change. With chemicals that act on your brain, it is genuinely hard to tell. So far I am pleased, and I am curious to see how it shifts as the dose goes up and time passes.

I have been on Reta for 4 months now, and all that time I walked past the snacks in the store. Today I finally bought some Buffalo chicken dip and corn chips.

I ate a portion and hit a point of saturation where more simply had no appeal (very unlike me). The rest went back into the refrigerator. Better still, the chips and dip never entered my head for the remainder of the night (also very unlike me).

This voodoo magic in a vial — I love it.
That is wonderful to hear! Had you been on any other GLP-1 first, or was reta your 1st? And do you feel this could have happened earlier, or did it only become clear once those 4 months had passed?
The first GLP-1 I have ever used, and the only one. As for the second part, I cannot really say — I went with my gut and with whatever felt correct at the time.

Honestly, it is an enormous relief. I had not expected it to matter this much.

My first GLP, and yes it came on fast: the shot went in around 9pm ish and by the following morning it was already noticeable.

At the moment it holds for roughly 5 days or so, which I put down to still being in the half-life loading phase.

For me, food noise shows up as planning the next meal while the current one is still going, thinking about the leftovers in the fridge or the treats in the break room, and taking the long way around at the grocery store so my favorite snacks never come into view.

Appetite is being ready for lunch an hour too early, still not full after a normal portion, and being unable to fall asleep with a growling stomach. People who have never had to deal with this will say you should simply stop once the hunger is gone rather than once you are full - well that's 🐮💩 because when I stop eating as soon as the hunger eases, the hunger comes back in full force an hour later.

Tirz, and then Reta, put an end to all of it for me. Adding Cagri was something I tried, but it made no noticeable difference, probably because the suppression was already sufficient. The extra burn on top of that suppression comes from Reta, though my HR does climb on it, so once I reach maintenance I will go back to Tirz.

They are different, I agree. Nothing alike whatsoever. It only became clear to me once the food noise had gone quiet.

Completely different, in my experience. On Tirz both effects were reduced beautifully, whereas on Reta the appetite is still damped down but the cravings are very much present. Weight has kept coming off anyway, and I am treating that as a genuine opening to rebuild how I relate to food…moderation, all of that. It is hard going though

I am aware that plenty of people have told you the same thing already, that appetite suppression and food noise suppression are not the same. Speaking for myself, I cannot tell the two apart.

Food noise is still a fairly recent idea and it has no established place in medical terminology, yet researchers have begun to define and measure the construct. In most of that work, food noise and hunger come out as two concepts that are related but distinct.

Researchers who work on this are fairly firm about it: food noise is better understood not as hunger sensation but as a cognitive phenomenon, a kind of maladaptive prospection where the brain keeps simulating near-term reward scenarios that clash with longer-term goals. The giveaway is the way people describe intrusive, cue-triggered preoccupation with food even when there is no physiological need behind it. Thinking about the next meal while the current one is still being eaten, for instance. Fullness and loud food noise can coexist; equally, real hunger can arrive with a quiet mind. Two different axes.
