Food noise reduction VS appetite suppression. Please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks it's different issues?

Hello, 1st actual post after my intro, be gentle.

I've been on T for a while now and while I don't have any hunger issues, never had before either, I do suffer from constant food noise and habitual/compulsive eating patterns. I read that Tirz helps with addictions too and decided to try it first.

I am noticing appetite suppression on tirz, but I still eat because it's habitual. And by eat I mean binge..It feels horrible but I'm used to overeating even if I'm full and it's all because of food noise, not actual appetite. However, when I see discussions on this people seem to use both concepts interchangeably and now I'm not sure if I can trust any online discussion on this.

Been looking into Cagri, but again, people say it's for food noise but then I see it gives you nausea and you never feel hungry which is just not the same. I want my cravings, the constant food chatter, the dopamine chasing gone, hunger I don't care as much. I can have less or keep it the same but as long as the noise doesn't go that won't matter much.

How long is awhile and what dose are you at?

Based of my experience, they are most definitely not the same. I was in a very similar situation to you, don't worry you're not alone. To be honest, I'm still trying to figure out the most advantageous way to knock both problems out optimally.

Since taking reta I found appetite suppression was a minor inconvenience compared to the food noise. After about 3 months of reta is when I started to realize the food noise slowly disappearing. I still was getting urges from time to time and hopped on cagrilintide to fully block the noise. I didn't feel much taking .5mg the first week so I upped it to 1mg along with 5mg of reta. Yesterday, I had coffee, a protein shake and 25% of my pho bowl. I didn't feel hungry at all yesterday and when I did eat I immediately became full, which is not ideal for someone looking to maintain muscle.

Those who say cagri never makes them feel hungry are probably taking too high of a dose for their needs like I did. I don't know much about tirz so can't help there but don't be afraid to experiment. After all, we're all lab rats and playing with numbers is the name of the game. Best of luck 💪

I've tried both Tirz and Reta so my .02 cents: Tirz made me feel stuffed constantly and I could eat very little because I would quickly feel uncomfortably full. However, it did little for my food noise and substance use issues.

Reta, however, had much less of an effect on fullness. Instead the thought of eating made me feel somewhat nauseous and just have a 'yuck' reaction - kind of like when you're battling the stomach flu. Reta also significantly improved my food noise and virtually eliminated my substance use. There were more sides though with Reta, however.

So, you may want to consider a trial run of Reta at some point.

I experienced both noise reduction and appetite suppression day one, but over time (6 months in on Tirz) I see them as totally separate. I've had periods when appetite surged back, but food noise has stayed away the entire time. I'm assuming (of course I could be wrong) that the food noise is a brain thing, how the drug acts on the brain, and the appetite has to do with the fact that after about 3 months on Tirz the delayed gastric emptying goes away, so you're not feeling that initial sense of intense fullness anymore. So food noise = brain effect, appetite = physical effect.

Consider Eloralintide when it becomes more availabe (and affordable). I'm just starting the experiment, so too soon to really tell. In general, amylin hits different than glp-1 and gip. It is supposed to be fewer side effect, greater appetite suppression and greater weight loss combined with tirz or reta.

I also define them identically same as you and you can have both at the same time. Urge to eat. But can not eat as much as the urge lets you think

They are different things for me. Food noise is that constant obsession over food, cravings, wanting to eat whether or not I'm hungry, and wanting to eat "fun" foods. Tirz has completely taken that away for me. I still get hungry, it's a physical sensation rather than mental like food noise. I've never had a problem with hunger, it's the food noise and compulsive eating that were my main problem. I also still have an appetite, I can enjoy food and want to eat when I'm hungry although the tirz makes it easy to follow my diet. I think it's different for everyone though. Some people don't have much food noise, some might struggle with hunger as their main issue, etc. and I wonder if maybe that's where the confusion stems from.

You haven't mentioned your dose or how long you've been on it but you might need a higher dose. Plenty of people need higher doses for tirz to be effective. Or another glp-1 might be better for you and you could try switching to something else. You can't know how reta, for example, would affect you until you try it because people do react differently to these. But don't get discouraged, with some trial and error you should be able to find what works best for you!

My personal studies with Tirzepitide were the same, mainly habit. Habits are the main driving factor of food noises. I’ve developed years upon years of bad eating habits and my mind is always staying on the target of the past! Even with Cagrilintide, food noises are a factor because of years and years of mental hand to mouth muscle memory and coordination. We eventually come to a road where we need more distractions like fitness and recovery over eating and comfort!

On Reta I can have food in the fridge , leftovers even, and not be constantly thinking about them and sneaking in for a bite. Most of the time. Enough that it makes a meaningful difference in weight loss effect and sanity. First time since third grade I feel like I have a normal relationship with food. I eat until full sometimes because I’m hungry (like normal but with a wet blanket over it dulling it out) and sometimes because I know I need to. My portions are drastically reduced. 800 calories is a huge effort now. 400 is an average meal and I feel pretty stuff with that too, just now as a matter of fact. And I’m not already planning my next meal because the food noise is gone. Hope you find what helps. It’s been truly liberating

I understand this very well, and I do see food noise and appetite (hunger) as separate. You can still feel food noise in the background while physically full, which is what makes people end up bingeing or obsessing over the thought of bingeing. I see food noise as more psychological and appetite as more physical.

On reta, I felt that it reduced the food noise to some degree at first. It never really made me feel physically full, though, and eventually the physical hunger became too overwhelming to continue. When you’re ravenously hungry, thoughts of eating will overpower everything else, making it both a physical and psychological issue.

I was only on cagri for a short time because, well, it simply did nothing for me. It didn’t reduce the psychological yearning or the physical hunger. It just made me tired.

On tirz, my most recent experiment, it definitely reduces the physical hunger, but I’m still not sure about the psychological food-noise reduction. It helps, but it doesn’t feel as strong as I had hoped. I’ve only had two weekly shots so far though, so I’m still trying to understand how it works with my body.

I’m thinking of adding tesofensine, and I’m also waiting for elora. My goal is to reduce the food noise, not necessarily hunger itself. I’m getting too old to keep myself constantly occupied, both mentally and physically just to stay fit. Hopefully I’ll find an answer in tirz, elora, or tesofensine.

Yes, food noise and appetite suppression are definitely two different things for me. I've only taken reta, but it has killed food noise since the beginning. However, it took me titrating up to 6mg and splitting my dose every 3.5 days to have steady appetite suppression with no side effects.

When I started tirz, I felt the food noise suppression within 24 hours, and I also stayed on 2.5mg for the first two months (5ish months in I’m at 6.5mg, 34lbs down. I’ve also been titrating maybe a little too slowly, but that’s OK). I still have normal hunger and eat when I’m hungry for the most part.

HOWEVER, despite the food noise—the obsessive, constant thinking about food—going away almost completely (I still have a few days a month where it’s strong around my monthly cycle), it took me about a month to learn how to eat well and not binge. Food has been a very emotional and addictive thing my whole life, and those habits can take a little while to fade even with meds, especially if you’re used to tolerating the physical discomfort of binging (I’ve had binge-related EDs since a young teen).

Although I usually don’t suggest this, it might be helpful to purge your home of any trigger foods or substances and replace them with healthy, non-crave-worthy items. You can also make a deal with yourself to get a nice, non-food treat (massage, gadget etc.) for every week you don’t get take-out/deliveries/junk food. I know these are more “typical diet” strategies, but they might help you while you’re still learning to calibrate hunger, food noise & habit.

Reta killed my food noise - my desire to bottom out my cupboards every night. Id frequently stuff 6000cals while in a cut and then sulk about it for the next 5 days. I actually had 3 triangles of a toblerone earlier today and put the rest back, I have never done this before in my life.

Reta hasnt killed my apetite - I still get hungry at meal times, although I do get fuller faster.

Interesting, I agree they are different. Tirz has definitely quieted most food noise. I generally don't think about having to get to food nearly as much, but don't feel hungry either. Did during the day I easily get full and into the evening I could eat forever and finding it easy to give into a binge. When I stop eating because of logistics (eg, only have so much time on lunch break) I feel satiated. Later in the day when I have the time, I feel like there is little hurdle if any, and I graze though at a slower pace until I can't eat (fall asleep, run out of quick snacks). I've noticed it's not as strong of a pull at night like it used to be, however, but I'm not hungry at almost any point and just keep eating. At least the Tirz is helping to some degree!

After leaving the snacks at the store for the 4 months I've been on Reta, I just bought some Buffalo chicken dip and some corn chips.

I ate some and reached a saturation point where more just wasn't appealing (not normal for me). I put the leftover back in the refrigerator. Most importantly I didn't think about the chips and dip for the rest of the night (also not normal).

I love this voodoo magic in a vial.

so happy for you! did you try another GLP-1 before or was reta the 1st? and do you think you could've had this happen before or were you sure only now after 4 months?
