In the past, every time I topped up my Exodus wallet with crypto, my debit card was the method I relied on. Today, though, it sent me over to moon pay so I’d create an acct. with id and biometric bullshit. So does my wallet remain decentralized and under my sole control? Should I be concerned that moonpay could suspend my acct. With just exodus, things worked well for us.... after years i finally learned crypto but without a triple block chain move. Am i still good?

There's no reason to worry about your Exodus wallet. Sure, handing over KYC details to a coin seller creates a possible route to linking an otherwise non-KYC wallet back to you. Still, pulling off that kind of identification isn't simple at all. How much you care about privacy decides what you do next: leave things exactly as they are (which ought to be totally fine), or turn on multi-address per transaction and move portions into a fresh non-KYC wallet that also has multi-address enabled. The choice is entirely yours.

Keeping your buying and selling separate from the wallet you use to send money to overseas sellers has always seemed like the smarter move to me. Moonpay collects every detail about you since it's legally required to produce an IRS Form 1099-DA that reports the gains and losses tied to your crypto trades. A custodial wallet such as Exodus exists so you can hold onto at least a bit of privacy in your digital money. Do your buying and selling through Coinbase or Robinhood (those platforms will hand you the forms the tax office expects), then use Exodus to pay your Chinese mystery powder suppliers.

Appreciate it, everyone! From what I'm seeing, they log crypto purchases and sales, but once it lands in an Exodus wallet, nothing else gets tracked unless you sell it.

Let me be completely upfront: folks here who know more than I do (and that's nearly everyone in this community) have made the legal point that every crypto gain and loss ought to be reported — including ones triggered when you move crypto into somebody else's wallet, like paying for crocheted vial and syringe holders. So picture buying $100 of Polkabit or Bitdot, sending it to your cold wallet, watching it rise in value, then spending it on $200 worth of goods: strictly speaking, you're expected to declare $100 in digital asset gains. How anyone would verify that is a mystery to me, and my hunch is it isn't something the majority of us currently have to stress over.

Stay with stablecoins (USDC, USDT, etc.) and you sidestep gains and losses (aside from the occasional cent or two).

An Exodus wallet was what I tried to set up just now, and there is no option anywhere to create a wallet? The instructions someone posted here were followed, YouTube was consulted, and every video shows create a wallet as step one after downloading — yet the option never appears for me. Any help would be great! Thanks

I'm not sure it ever stated outright that it was making a wallet on my behalf..... as long as you complete the identity check—uploading your ID and all that—you ought to be fine. Nothing in my interface is labeled wallet; it simply displays my balance.... for example 92.00 btc, 147 usdt

I figure it happens on its own. When a buy/sell/swap option is available, your "wallet/account" is already there.

Alright, so maybe I'm fine after all. On Exodus, I can launch the app and view all the various coins along with their rates. But the moment I tried to purchase any, it pushed me over to MoonPay, which turned into a whole separate headache. My Bio-scan wouldn't go through — I attempted it 20-30 times and every single time it told me verification failed. Probably just something on my end.

I attempted to make Moon Pay work for me, but Coinbase turned out to be simpler and faster when it came to verification and letting me purchase/transfer, so unless things shift, I’m staying with it.
I’m on Coinbase myself. Bank transfers normally land right away for me. What I haven’t figured out is why a transfer occasionally gets held up when it usually goes through instantly.

Every attempt I make at MoonPay verification fails — the camera turns blurry, and I get told verification wasn't possible. I've given it a shot on both my laptop and my phone.

Could be the light — I needed a bunch of attempts... it's hard to look at the screen when my head is tilted sideways at a 90 degree angle. The odd part: when I picked up crypto last week, it routed via Moon; I got more today and Moon wasn't involved — my debit card handled it.

All of this exists so ai, fb and the rest can hand it to the govt, letting you be identified while taking a leak in an alley or doing something worse. After that, your face can be spotted instantly anywhere on earth.

I don't know much about this stuff, but this place has some real tech experts. Let them have a day to reply.... wish I could've been more help. I'll BUMP the thread. Maybe head outside, or get better lighting with someone else holding the camera.

Also, Exodus mentioned that it would require a 12 word password code — mine never requested one. Did yours?

Yeah, they hand it to you during registration... sounds like you got locked out. That's the only way back in.... look in email/spam. It's 12 random words. Maybe make another account using a proton email... it's encrypted and then exodus shouldn't know it's the same ip address.

Appreciate it — I've got MoonPay support on the line right now, and their answer is that somebody will reach out to me inside 24hrs... LOL, so tonight there's no buying.

I'll simply look for a different payment method—this is way too much trouble. There have to be other platforms out there offering the same service as Exodus.
