An Exodus wallet was what I tried to set up just now, and there is no option anywhere to create a wallet? The instructions someone posted here were followed, YouTube was consulted, and every video shows create a wallet as step one after downloading — yet the option never appears for me. Any help would be great! Thanks
Based on what I know about Exodus and apps like it... (anyone with deeper knowledge, feel free to correct me)
Opening Exodus generates a wallet for you right away. Strictly speaking, a wallet isn't the thing you send or receive crypto through. Think of a wallet more as a box or storage facility for...
Addresses! Those are what actually let you send and receive crypto. To view the address tied to whichever coin you want, tap that coin's icon inside your portfolio (exodus wallet) and pick receive. Whatever address pops up belongs to you.
You can configure them so they rotate, generating a fresh one whenever you want extra privacy, but keep in mind that although it's tough, linking your accounts is nowhere near impossible.
About that 12 word seed phrase... Head into Settings, and I believe it lives somewhere under the backup options.
Now for purchasing Crypto... If BTC is all you're dealing with, Moonpay strikes me as terrible. It's wildly inconsistent and I can't stand it. My approach is to just complete KYC on Cashapp, Venmo, and similar, then transfer it over to your Exodus address. Fair warning: bigger amounts through CashApp get "suspicious BTC addresses" flagged, and they'll reject the 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt, but as I mentioned, you can make your wallet refresh its address however often you like.
Final point: never use Cashapp, Venmo, etc to move crypto to a vendor. Odds are it's already blocked since some fool tried it that way before, but with Cashapp, Venmo etc, the crypto isn't really in your possession. It's in theirs. That makes flagging vendors simpler, but if the app you're using turns against you... they can simply freeze you, and whether your crypto ever surfaces again is anyone's guess. As far as I know Exodus is still self-custody, so fewer headaches there.
Hope this helps.
