Does anyone here freeze dry their own supplies?

Lately I’ve been considering picking up raw materials and running them through a freeze dryer on my own. The gear required isn’t insanely costly.

Naturally, I’d have to make sure the raw products are sterile and that the setting in my personal “lab” is sterile too.

I figured I’d put this thought out there and find out whether anyone else has gone down that road.

Yesterday at 7:31 pm, in a thread about several Australians getting liver poisoning, @dogmom said:

It's odd that these cases aren't reported more often. Some folks still believe they can purchase bags of raw peps of reta and tirz and fill vials on their own. Others think tap water works fine for reconstitution.

Roughly 4 hours afterward, this guy says "hey so...."

To truly achieve sterility you'd need a negative-pressure cleanroom, an industrial fume hood, containers, gloves, an autoclave, instruments, a scale, plus the know-how to validate that scale and those tools, and so on. In the lab I managed, we detected Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa — the very organism we were screening for. It turned out, though, that the source was the filtered water line. Attempting this yourself carries substantial risk. Yes, grey is a hazard, but it's probably far less of one than your house. You don't get weekly pest treatments, daily disinfection, sticky mats, or a foot bath. Not to mention the large volumes of benzyl alcohol used for wiping surfaces. I had seasoned SME microbiologists on my team, and errors still occurred. It happens — the difference is they recognize it when it does and can adjust. They also operated under USP standards. Are you familiar with USP? GMP? How solid is your lab technique? I'm not saying this to wound you, but those standards exist for more than just 'certification'.

I'd strongly urge you to research this far more thoroughly before proceeding any further, and I hope you'll abandon this plan. Just consider the risk of grey and reconstitution... now you're taking that risk and multiplying it by factors in the thousands.

Well then... looks like my weekend plans just took a hit...

There are countless ways this type of procedure could fail, in my view. Pulling it off would require someone on Walter White's level.

"Raw materials" is a phrase I don't even fully understand. What would the method be? For GHK synthesis, would you purchase glycine, histidine, and lysine as separate items, then join them using a toothpick? Perhaps stick the blend to an old penny for some time so it turns into GHK-Cu? Thinking about it more, the cost alone would make it unfeasible.

Do you believe you can measure the molecules for every vial?

Perhaps "raw materials" wasn't the right way to put it. What I mean is purchasing the "raw" peptide powder and then dividing it into portions.

I'm not trying to set up a lab and do the compounding on my own.

Going by the replies, it seems like this idea is a real hit with everyone?? 😂

This could turn into a hit Hollywood film or a Netflix show. The next Breaking Bad. I'm not encouraging this at all, but if you decide to go down that road, feel free to share.

The thing is, if you're actually committed to this, it gets wild. A while back I thought about picking up a jar of Tadalafil powder and just dividing it into pills on my own. I'm talking roughly 2 cents per pill. They sell the stuff by the jar. Looking back, that wasn't exactly my smartest move.

Wait, are you actually being serious? Or is this just a bid for engagement so that banner disappears from your profile?

Either way, grey market prices are quite reasonable
Seriously, is it really just that simple? Lol 🤔

Ha, so you went down that path as well? I mean, sure, it sucked up a ton of time, but honestly it wasn't terrible.... do you still have that capsule machine? 😉 🙂 🙂

Your plan would likely break down right at step 1: moving the material across the ocean to where you are without it degrading heavily. It does not hold up the way lyophilized peptides do.
