DIY bacteriostatic water — does anyone here make their own?

About sterile water: could you produce your own by boiling a pot of pure water with the lid flipped upside down to catch condensation? My guess is that what you collect would be sterile distilled water, and that it would be suitable for injection. One issue I've heard about is that pH may differ based on the point during cooling when you close up the distilled water.

For using it right away, I'd figure that's fine. However, if the plan is to mix it with a peptide that needs to stay good for a month, then you'd want 1 part BA per 100 parts water. The 99.995% pure USP grade BA from Revolve Chem ought to do the job without any problem, as far as I can tell.

Sure, grabbing Hospira is simpler, but sourcing it seems hard for some folks, and for those of us who can get it, I'm not convinced the supply will always be there.

Would this actually work? Anyone with more knowledge than me want to chime in?
Your idea has a lot of appeal, and as a hobby I actually fire up a still a few times every year — but if I'm being honest, I'd rather roll the dice on a 1-gallon jug of distilled water from WallyWorld than put my faith in what I cook up in the kitchen.

That's not me saying WW distilled is something to inject. My own route is Hospira through InjectionShop: once the order reaches $50, shipping costs nothing. Alternatively, following what Peter Magic suggests in that YT video, I've simply gone with Sterile for Injection. Either way, there are choices.
I share your doubt that the WW product would be sterile right when it comes out of the container. Still, I figure boiling and distilling it myself ought to wipe out microbes along with endotoxins.

Water labeled sterile for injections works fine, yet after you put it into a vial that has been punctured, there's no BA left to stop microbes from multiplying across the weeks ahead.

Either way, I doubt I'll go down this road--it's just a fun thing to talk about.
A hundred 10ml WFI ampoules run me $20.

Drop it into a vial, then put in the right amount of BAC. Cheap, simple, no risk, no hassle.

Process is, first you get injection sterile water and ph.Eur/USP injection grade BA.

I am using a sterile injection water easily obtainable here (comes in packs of 20 bottles with 10, 20, 50, 100ml and so on, I prefer the versions of 20ml or more, they come in glass bottles, 10ml version comes in plastic ampules, and 10ml is anyway not much). For example, the one I am using (not sure if brands are allowed here, having post rejected all the time), a pack of 20x20ml costs something like 6 Euro, available in countless real and online pharmacies in Germany (and hence, in the EU).

BA I am getting from the lab supplies in the Netherlands. The smallest bottle you can get there is 100ml (iirc), but anything from 20-50ml or so will do the trick, and will last you forever (or at least for 2 years, until BA starts to oxidize in the opened BA bottle, and thus becomes less effective. After 2 or so years, you simply order a new one.

Then, get a sterile insulin syringes you would use for reconning, pull what amounts to 0.9-1% of BA for your bottle of sterile injection water (for example, get 1ml of BA for 100ml water bottle, 0.45-0.5ml of BA for 50ml bottle and so on.

No need to be super precise with BA amount, people are putting everything from 0.8% to 1.8% of BA and doing just fine. Also, branded BAC waters also vary in BA content `for as much as 0.2% or more from batch to batch, so no difference there.

Once you get the proper amount of BA in your syringe, put it in the sterile water, shake it around for some time to spread the BA around. That's it, you have got yourself selfmade BAC for basically pennies 🙂

As I wrote above, get your ph.Eur grade BA from the Netherlands (or from somewhere else, it's not the only place, of course), smallest bottle of 20, 50 or 100ml will last you years

It is not less sterile than, for example, reconning and filling up cartridges for the injection pens, like V1s, V2s, Savvio, GensulinPen2, Novo...

Appreciate the breakdown! For your BAC water, are you combining everything right inside the 20ml vials? And what's your storage timeframe for them?

@BasharTeg, what do you pay for a case of sterile injectable water over in Europe?

Hi im also from Germany, nice to see here People from the same Region. I have now also the same Issue my last BAC is now used and i need replenishment.

I have used 2 times China BAC for a test with Tirz but both times i got heavy Side Effects(Heart Racing/feeling sick ect.) from someone. I will exclude that it depends on the BAC Water.

For this Reason i ordered Saline NaCL Injectionwater? Any Reason why you didn´t use it? And what will be the better Solution NaCL oder Ampuwa with BA for rec. of Tirz?
NaCl water is neither necessary nor advisable when you're reconstituting peptides.

Either it will interact with the buffer components left over from lyophilization, or it will interact with the peptides themselves once you try to recon them.

Take Reta as an example: chances are it will react with Sodium (in German: Natrium) and end up degraded — meaning reduced potency, or possibly no potency at all. Other peptides might turn gelatinous, clump together (form "floaties"), go "cloudy", or show any mix of those unwanted outcomes. In my view, the sneaky adverse effects — where there are no floaties, no jelly, no cloudiness, but the peptide is simply weaker or fully neutralized — are actually the worst, since nothing visible or testable reveals it, apart from the fact that it then does less or nothing when you inject it (and that isn't always simple to judge).

The acidic residues in the buffer of a lyophilized peptide will react with salts (and yes, NaCl is a salt), undergoing hydrolysis of those residues, which would leave many peptides ineffective because their cell signaling mechanisms get damaged.

Clearly, none of that is something you'd want 🙂

Simply reach for Ampuwa or another sterile injection grade water, add BA, and you'll be fine 🙂

Edit: True, certain peptides from certain batches may show zero — or barely any — noticeable or obvious effects when NaCl is used for reconning. But why take that gamble, when NaCl contributes literally nothing, while both BA and sterile injection water are easy to get and cost next to nothing?

Beyond making your own BAC water, what's left is to pick something proven and branded, such as Hospira or Lambda BAC water. Everything else amounts to a lottery and a gamble — one you're bound to lose most of the time.
One of the testing servers reports that Lambda came back with some detectable endotoxins, whereas Hospira showed none at all.

Thanks for the writeup! When mixing your BAC water, do you make it directly into the 20ml vials? How long do you keep them?

My method is dead simple: draw 0.5ml of BA into a 50ml Ampuwa glass bottle, give it a shake, done.

The rubber stopper on that 50ml bottle matches what you find on peptide vials, which means you can keep drawing BAC water from it over and over (swab with alcohol before and after, same as you would with any BAC water bottle).

My most recent 50ml batch of homemade BAC water has been sitting for 9 weeks now. Even so, yesterday I reconstituted 1 vial of GHK-Cu, 1 vial of AHK-Cu, and 1 vial of CJC-1295 no DAC + Ipa using it — all 3 came out crystal clear and dissolved in 20-40 seconds.

I'm fairly confident the "old" BAC mix would stay good past those 9 weeks too, but rather than be too stingy in a spot where I probably shouldn't be, I'll dump it and mix a fresh 50ml bottle the next time I need to recon something.

When you break it down, each 50ml bottle runs me roughly 80-90 Eurocents (and a drop of BA is essentially free), so I'm fine being wasteful and tossing whatever's left — about 30ml or so of the old BAC mix 😛

@BasharTeg, how much does a case of the sterile injectable water cost you (in Europe)?

What I use is Ampuwa sterile injection water (the glass bottle version with 50ml/bottle), going for around 21 Euros for 20 x 50ml bottles at the moment. It cost a little less a few months back when I picked it up (around 17 Euros for 20 x 50ml).

Ampuwa comes in other formats too (5, 10, 20, 50, 100ml, and so on), though the glass bottles are the ones I like (10 and 20 ml ship in plastic ampules), because BA can go straight in, that is the whole job, and the bottle gets reused many times (the rubber top is the same kind the lyophilized peptide vials have), so there is nothing to transfer after mixing (which is what you end up doing with ampules).

There is also the route of 5 or 10ml ampules meant for "single use" - get the right amount of BA in, draw the BAC water out, recon a vial or two straight away, aand then bin the ampule (there are only a few ml in it anyway). 20 x 5ml ampules run about 4.4 Euros, and the larger 20 x 10ml packs are barely more, 4.5 Euros for 20 x 10ml. The bigger 50ml glass bottles still win for me, but ymmv.

Yet another solid thread! This is something I've mulled over quite a bit, though I never actually dug into the details. In my mycology work I've produced plenty of sterile water, which got me thinking about whether I could do the same and then mix in BA. On top of that, I've got an entire case of Hospira BA water with a July 2013 expiration date. Would that still be usable, or should I just spike it with a bit more BA?
There's already BA in Hospira BAC water, but at this point it's likely lost its potency. That said, I personally wouldn't take the chance on something that expired 13 years ago 😛

Which is a good reminder to (once again) dig through all the stuff my mother in law keeps in her pantry — spices, unidentified powders, that sort of thing. My wife and I have come across items in there that expired 40 years ago or more... and my MIL's take on it was "it's still unopened, so it's still fine, no reason to toss it" 😉

I've been whipping up my own bac water from the start — I keep sterile injection water in 2mL vials, which means it stays sterile and there's no double dipping. In my view that beats repeatedly stabbing a 30mL Hospira bac vial. I use 1% benzyl alcohol rather than 0.9%, purely because it's simpler. So far, my DIY bac water hasn't given me any trouble (well, up to this point).

I simply put 0.5ml of BA in a 50ml Ampuwa glass bottle, shake it around and that's it.

That 50ml bottle has the same rubber top like the peptide vials, so it can be reused many times to pull BAC water out of it (with alcohol swabbing before/after, like any other BAC water bottle.

My last 50ml selfmade BAC water bottle is now 9 weeks old, and despite that, I just reconned 1 vial of GHK-Cu, 1 vial of AHK-Cu and one vial of CJC-1295 no DAC + Ipa with it yesterday, all 3 crystal clear, reconned in 20-40 seconds.

I am quite sure that the "old" BAC mix will still usable even after more than these 9 weeks, but, just to be sure and not too frugal where I probably should not be, the next time I have to recon something I will throw it away and make me a new 50ml one.

After all, one such 50ml bottle costs me something like 80-90 Eurocents (and a drop of BA costs basically nothing), so I will be wasteful and throw the remaining 30 or so ml of the previous BAC mix 😛

Appreciate it, that's straightforward. Are syringe filters part of your process?

Thanks for the reply. I did more research and apparently the tonitcity of the Sterfile WFI doesn't matter that much for small volume injections. In fact, I came to learn that regular bacwater isn't isotonic either. I'm going to make a few vials and send one off for testing. Thanks again.

Let us know how it goes — I'm doing something along the same lines right now

Thanks, very clear. Do you use syringe filters?

Nope.

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered, because every peptide I've used so far gave me no trouble at all — whether that's reconning, or the quality, purity, toxicity or bacterial content. Maybe it's just luck.

Honestly, finding BA at injection grade isn't that difficult, particularly within the EU.

To give an example, I picked some up from the Netherlands (injection grade, ph. Eur, USP), and it was simple to locate through whichever search engine you prefer.

Their smallest bottles are 100ml, and they go up to 25 litres 🙂

So I got my BA from them (the 100ml bottle will probably outlast me, or at minimum 2-3 years before oxidation sets in, at which point I'll simply buy a replacement), and I used sterile injection water (which is also easy to get in Germany) to mix my own BAC water, costing me next to nothing.

Every reconstitution came out perfectly clear and held up for weeks at a time without any issues.
Could you tell me where you place orders in NL?

Search for benzyl alcohol ph eur on Google. The top result is likely a discount store.

🙂
