Located a reliable vendor with strong feedback, COA’s and rates. Next step is jumping into crypto. PayPal is what I have and I’m at ease buying through it. Based on what I’ve read, I think I should get a wallet that lets me move crypto into it. The vendor takes USDT/USDC Solana and Ethereum. Am I heading in the right direction? Appreciate your time and advice.

yes - that path is correct.
Exodus works well as a wallet too. The key thing is to avoid buying or swapping within the wallets themselves (the fees are very high); use them only for transfers.

Does Coinbase count as self-custodial? I keep seeing stories about people getting their accounts shut down after using Coinbase to buy peps.
Losing an exchange account just because you sent money toward drug dealers is the worst outcome — a self-custodial wallet cuts that link, so banks stop poking around your business.
From what little I've seen, newcomers tend to have a good run with Exodus and Trust Wallet.
I get PYUSD on PP, then rely on the swap feature inside the wallet to turn it into whatever I'm after.
Over on Telegram, STG's Crypto channel has helped me a lot.

From what I understand, Exodus no longer includes its Web3 functionality in newly created wallets — luckily mine is an older one, so I can still access it. Outside of Exodus, what method do you use for swaps?

Can’t offer any guidance on that. I’m clueless. Go with Exodus. Personally I use Trust Wallet, though buying inside the wallet comes with an 8% fee, as another person pointed out earlier. Still, my time and peace of mind are worth every cent. I really like Trust Wallet. There’s a thread explaining how to use PayPal without paying fees. I skimmed it for about 15 secs and figured the fees were acceptable.

What worked best for me was a service such as jumper.xyz, which is compatible with Exodus.
Alternatively, you can move your funds to an exchange, perform the conversion there, and send them back in whichever format you need.

The amusing part is that a lot of us got our start with compounders, dropping huge amounts of money. After that, we found our way to this forum. I call it heaven. And now we get annoyed about paying a tiny crypto fee. Simply go with trust wallet. It’s incredibly simple and quick. Plus it’s very safe. Every transaction also includes multi factor identity, so the scumbags stay away. If you’re broke find the thread on doing it free.

On my previous purchase, I got PYUSD through PayPal and moved it over to Coinbase. Once it was there, I converted it into USDC and then pushed it to my exodus wallet. The costs involved were very low.

Oops, my mistake — the PYUSD went straight to Exodus, and the swap happened right there. Coinbase wasn't part of the process at all on this occasion. All told, the fees came to just $2.02.
I'm jumping in even though the question wasn't directed at me. The reason is that doing things like buying or swapping straight from a wallet costs a ton. Sure, "a ton" only looks that way next to the usual fees people run into with crypto, so maybe it won't bother you. For me, though, it's irritating enough that I'd rather go with other options.
Thanks, that clears things up completely. I believe I've got the process straight now. My plan is to buy PYUSD and ETH via PayPal, then transfer them into an Exodus wallet. From what I gather, to cut costs I'd move funds to Coinbase first, perform the swap there, and afterward send everything over to Exodus.

From what I understand, the exchange would need to be PYUSD (ETH) to USDT (TRC20). To make that happen, you'd first have to move the PYUSD from PayPal into a PYUSD (ETH) wallet address on Exodus. My crypto skills are pretty limited.
