Anyone made the change from Retatrutide over to Tirzepatide?

Hey everyone,

For 2 months I was on Retatrutide, and it treated me well. The problem was the price — at the time I was buying single vials at an inflated cost — so when the vial ran out I quit, and because the food noise returned I put back on the majority of the weight. I want to get back into shape now, and above all quiet the food noise so that life revolves less around eating, but Retatrutide cannot be found in my area at the moment, while Tirzepatide can be bought, so I am thinking of giving it a try. So my question: has anyone here moved from Reta to Tirz, so I can get a clearer idea of how the doses compare? I am aware that the majority of people use a much larger Tirz dose than Reta. As a reference point, the last Reta dose I took was 5mg weekly, all in 1 shot. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Tirzepatide typically begins at 2.5mg per week. Per the GLP plotter, each dose should be maintained for a minimum of 4 weeks because it accumulates in the body and reaches steady state at 4 weeks. After that, increases are made in 2.5mg steps unless you deviate from the standard approach. I only raise my dose when necessary, and then just by 1mg weekly. I also divide the dose, taking half on Thursday and the other half on Monday, which keeps levels steadier in my system. It smooths out the highs and lows somewhat. This has reduced my side effects.

My own experience with Reta is limited, though Tirz has given me great results that I'm happy with. And based on what I've come across in this community and across basically the entire internet, when it comes to silencing food noise, Tirzepatide sits at the top.

Appreciate you sharing that. Since my food noise is pretty intense, I'm leaning toward starting Tirz at a higher dose, then adjusting as I go.

I'm running trials on myself with the two of them, though weight loss isn't my goal. What I'm watching are metabolic markers like lipids and A1c. From the end of December '25 through mid February of this year I was taking 1.5mg of Reta, after which I made the change to Tirzepatide at the same 1.5mg, which is what I'm on now. Here's what I've noticed in my brief time with each: with Reta, food noise went down and hunger was kept in check. On Tirzepatide, food noise hasn't budged much (which caught me off guard), yet hunger is held back to roughly the same degree as Reta. Still, that's only my own reaction. My plan is to likely alternate between the two roughly every 3 months, and 1mg/week will probably be more than enough in my case.

I went Tirz → Reta → Tirz. What keeps me on Tirz is how well it kills my appetite, and by eating less I dropped a large amount of weight. On Reta that appetite suppression just wasn't there for me, and since going back to Tirz the weight has kept coming off.

I'm on a combination of the two, though the first 4 weeks were Tirzepatide by itself. Nothing to complain about there. Food noise got silenced right away, which was great. At this point I'm just testing what happens when I add Retatrutide, mainly for the energy boost and the other glucagon-related upsides. That said, if it came down to choosing only 1, Tirzepatide would likely win for me, since it handles food noise so effectively. I wouldn't want to gamble with losing that, personally.

Why quit? Tirz gets stacked on top of mine.
What does your dosing schedule look like when combining the two? I'm currently on 5 of Reta. Is it common to divide the mg and inject 2.5 of each a few days apart?

My injections are spaced 3 days apart

Jumping in at higher doses is a recipe for nasty side effects unless you've recently been on high doses of that same GLP or a comparable one. Because the half-life runs about a week, those effects can drag on. So if you'd rather not spend a week throwing up and end up in hospital on an IV drip for a few days, beginning low — say 2.5mg — is far safer. If you start at 5mg, my guess is the chance of a really rough week of nausea and/or vomiting is fairly high, at least 10%, likely more.

Reta and tirz are both great for weight loss. Reta packs a bit more punch, so if you've got 30% or more body weight to shed it may be the better pick. If you don't have much to lose, low doses of reta often work with minimal side effects — 1mg of reta can produce 9% weight loss over a year, while 1mg of tirz falls well short of that. For many people the two won't differ hugely; they're more alike than not. Reta is slightly stronger and probably comes with slightly more side effects. Tirz is slightly weaker and probably has the lowest side effect rate.

If you're currently not on any GLP, begin under the standard starting dose regardless of which one you pick. With Tirz, I divide the dose up — at the beginning I injected 3 times per week. Week 1 went like this: day 1 was .2mg (1 unit), day 2 was .4mg (2 units), day 3 was .6mg (3 units). Somewhere around the middle of week 2, the food noise began to quiet down. During week 2 all 3 shots were 3 units apiece (.6mg each), and I held that for roughly 3 weeks. Any time I titrated up, I only went by 1 unit, and only once the food noise got louder — because every single increase left me feeling sooo gross the following day. It took me several months to get beyond about 3mg per week.

This week I began Reta — running both, rotating the shots — and I should've started at .25 or .5, but like an idiot, did 1mg. No nausea but definitely some trots! Next one I might do .5 or .75 instead of 1mg.

My wife had to quit Reta because of adverse reactions. A few weeks afterward, she moved to Tirz, which brought less in the way of side effects, though her weight loss over the past month has either stalled or gone more slowly. Most likely, a dose change will make things better.
