So I've lost a bunch of weight over the past year (yay), and I have no idea what my size is anymore at any stores (boo). I'm in that odd zone between L/XL/1X now where you have to analyze every garment's actual dimensions to have any hope of it fitting. The thing is, at a larger size I could go 30 lbs before clothes were loose enough to replace. Now it seems I've lost two inches around the waist and I need to move down a size already.

The “Paper Towel” Analogy says "When you are heavy, you are big around. And when you are big around, that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area - just like that outside towel sheet. The closer you get to the lean you, the more each lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area."

Are you also noticing this? I want to buy a cute Christmas dress that I saw, but I have no idea what size I'll be by then.

Vinted has become my new BFF, easy to find good stuff cheap enough that I don't care so much if it doesn't fit. I've bought Judy Blues on there for $8-10! Wild. A Lands End jacket in what I'm GUESSING will be my winter size (??) for $5. Besides that site, local thrift stores for the same reasons.

If you're at goal, it's a different conversation, but if you're changing size every couple months, these kinds of options are best, IMHO of course.

I've been on Poshmark but I'll have to check out Vinted next. Thrift stores near me are wildly overpriced. My strategy up to this point has been to live in leggings and t-shirts and to buy "outside clothes" a size or two down and just wait until they fit. It's always a pleasant surprise to fit into one of those immediately.

I'm not saying you shouldn't treat yourself because every so often, you should. But Christmas is a loooong way.

I think it depends on how much weight you are planning to lose by then and the kind of dress you are planning to buy.

I bought a couple of brand new pants and shirts last April, donated them last week. That part of this "journey" is a lot more expensive than the peptides I use to achieve my goals.
