I've always kept it basic: an energy shot before, then creatine after I lift. Lately I've been reading up, and there seems to be some evidence that adding something with at least l-citrulline and beta alanine on top of the caffeine could help me get a little more out of my gym sessions. Plenty of products also bundle the creatine into the same mix, and I've seen l-theanine and ALCAR mentioned as potentially useful too.

Naturally, as soon as I start researching this, ads hit me on every platform. Optimum Nutrition and Thorne both seem to have a solid reputation. Wave Supplements, Kaged and a few others have also caught my interest. What do you take (or do you skip it entirely)? I'm mainly after opinions tied to heavy lifting.

Baking soda, taurine, salt, water, and possibly caffeine. Simple is best. With the baking soda, you need to build the dose up gradually, otherwise you'll shit yourself.

I take a 200mg caffeine pill as soon as I get up. It generally gets things going, and unlike a preworkout drink it won't fill you up or have a wild taste.

I'm a fan of BUM energy drinks. They're fairly low-stim at 112 mg caffeine and include citicoline, and they get me going. Since the stim level is so low, I can have 2 in a day if I need to. I genuinely like the taste, the root beer especially lol. I'm also running MOTS-c.

I usually grab whatever is on the shelf at the supplement store that has 200++mg of caffeine plus some citrulline. I look for a tub with a decent number of servings per dollar, check the ingredient list, and skip anything that's just fancy packaging.
