When do you feel like the greatest person on Earth?

I have a very clear memory of the instant I understood I was not the greatest person on earth. It was Stats412, around 1995. No matter how hard I tried, my brain just could not compute.

That said, at work I do routinely repair or swap out the sticker roll in pricing guns, and yes, it can feel pretty darn heroic. They don't just drop in like a nimbot roll - iykyk.

My Maytag stackable washer/dryer dates back to the gotdamn turn of the century. Right on the front it proudly proclaims "COMPUTER TOUCH CONTROL" — what a groundbreaking feature! Well, it quit on me. I made some calls. Nobody will service these relics anymore. My dad and brothers are in another province. So I googled and googled and youtubed, tested a few ideas, and by GOD, I FIXED IT!! fists raised CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!

Last month I swapped out the control board on my washer by myself. The part ran me $150.

Funny you mention that — when this thread first popped up, my mind went straight to that washing machine control board replacement. I had no way of knowing for sure that was the issue, so I simply ordered the part and crossed my fingers.

After a few youtube clips, I dove in.

The board came to about $150. Having a technician come out just to take a look would cost far more than that.

Doing that first load of laundry made me feel like a total boss!

My grandson had a question, so he told Mom to get Grandpa on the phone to answer it!

For me it was the day I disassembled my mom's Kitchen-Aid mixer, swapped out the worn gears and the worn out grease, and managed to reassemble it — and it powered right up! She had been convinced it needed replacing.

This post brings back memories of repairing cassette tapes using a pencil. Have I just revealed my age completely?

😅 😅 😅
When I was a young child, I also used to tinker with cassette tapes. That brings back a lot of memories.

👏👏👏 The finest DIY wins happen when you're forced into them. 🤣

"At what moment do you think you are the greatest person on Earth?"

With Flash bulb, Skidude, BNLFL, LadyJ, and roughly 100 others from this community out there, that title is never coming my way.
