What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting a GLP-1?

I have been spending some time reading through the forum and there’s a ton of information here. Everyone seems to have a slightly different experience, which makes it pretty interesting.

For those who have been using GLP-1s for a while, I’m curious what you learned along the way that you wish you had known from the beginning. Could be something simple about eating, routines, managing expectations, or anything else.

Always useful to learn from people who have already been through it.

I wish I knew that once I started, I would never want to stop.

That it was a gateway to learning about other peptides that have been life changing.

That I would never feel healthier, and have so much energy, even though I'm in my 40's.

And lastly...I wish I knew about this forum and how easy it is to go grey before I started buying from a reseller and paying $140 for a single vial of R10. Yikes.

I kind of thought that we just went down this path with a similar thread, but I can’t find it now 🤷🏻‍♂️.

If it’s just one thing, and not a laundry list, I think I underestimated the time I would spend on this “hobby”. From researching different peptides, engaging in community discussions, running my own testing groups, researching buying options, etc. it has been a lot of time.

I wish I had a better sense of a month passing. A month. A whole entire month. There were times when the scale didn't move one week and I had big feelings about raising my dose. In my head: "What if I'm someone who can only be fat? What if my weekly lose rate drops below 2lb/week?" (It did, but so what?)

My weight gain was kind of rapid in the first 5 years of perimenopause and I felt so fucking cursed with it. Like many women, I had tried gyno after gyno to get help and always left feeling like a crazy person because I couldn't get a single goddamned one of them to treat me for this condition that 100% of women experience. Resorted to bringing my husband to an appointment. He sat silently in a corner and what do you know? Left with meds and labs for the first fucking time.

Anyway. The glory of grey is not dealing with any doctor's bullshit opinions.

It's a big picture mistake to panic and raise your dose before waiting the full month. I wish I had trusted the process more.

There was. I didn't even look for it.

For me, This site and GB's, but I learned them fast.

Couldn’t agree more, but honestly trying to figure out how to bypass the resellers made me unintentionally learn so much more.

I’ve got to remember to show my wife your comment. She’s against peptides, because her algorithm hasn’t influenced her yet lol. Hoping she sees them working on me and changes her mind. She hasn’t gained a ton of weight but, enough to make her self conscious.

How much better I would feel.

When I was in my thirties I could lose weight by not drinking soda.

When I was in my forties I could lose weight by eating healthy and running every day.

Fifties hit me hard, I gained about 70# in 3 years and no amount of running, fasting or clean eating would make the weight go away. I saw my blood sugar levels rise slowly as I was constantly hungry and thirsty. So in despaired I started with oral weight loss drugs which worked for a couple months, and finally when my insurance would no longer cover it I found tell health tirzepitide.

My weight finally began to fall off as my daily running routine was showing results that I had in my forties. My blood sugar, my blood pressure, and my insulin levels all began to fall into the acceptable range.

I would have been on statins and metformin for the rest of my life if it wasn’t for Glp1 medication.

I have no problem with anyone taking statins or metformin but for me the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze as they both gave me side effects that made exercising painful.

I will quote one of my favorite Rush lyrics.. "all the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players".

I dont like being "played" by entities that want to dictate the rules, poison our foods and then force us into outrageously priced medical insurance plans that deny care anyway.

I am loving this gray space where I can make my own decisions and take care of my health more affordably.

** Edit- I guess I wish I knew about it sooner.

1. I wish I knew that glp's are better than any other peptide by a factor of 10, at least

2. Wish I learned grey before dropping a ton of money on other peps.

That the weight would come off this easily, and fast and planned a earlier exit strategy. I'm slowly titrating off and 10 pounds past my goal and still losing.

In addition to staying with a Sema compounder way too long, I wish I someone had told me not to have a "last supper" of half a pizza the day before starting Reta. You will pay for that decision. Don't ask me how I know.

I have lived a similar experience. In my thirties, I put on weight but could easily take it off with more exercise and diet. In my 40s and 50s, more difficult but low carb and movement still worked. Sometimes for years at a time.

In my 60s, I have accepted that diets really don't work because you eventually gain back the lost weight. What was the point of dieting if the weight eventually came back?

I talked to my PCP. 6 hours after my first shot, I knew GLPs were the solution that I needed to lose weight and to keep it off forever. 5 months later as I approach goal, I know that I will not regain this weight. I will be on a GLP in some form for the rest of my life.

I wish I knew there were resources like this forum in the first place. I started down the GLP road with a Big Name tele-health compounding company, paying over $2,000 a year. Just by dumb luck my wife causally mentioned a co-worker was on “Grey Market” Triz through the well known big online dealer. Did that for a bit when I found the wealth of information here. The availability and cost savings I now have to go with the information. Now having the feeling of power I NEVER had over food and weight. Seeing and FEELING my body get back to where I was decades ago. That is what I wish I knew back when I started.

When I started I thought I would lose the weight and taper off. I had no idea the decrease in food noise would be so dramatic. I knew I had loads of food noise, but I think I just couldn’t imagine what it would be like. Also thought I wasn’t ready to give up some of my favorite foods, but on Reta, I don’t care about those foods! I don’t miss them. I started with a reseller to see if I even liked Reta. I had no idea I would go grey after 3 weeks.

That "this is going to be forever" and that I'd be okay with that.

When people ask if I’m okay with being on glp1 forever, I say “just for the rest of my life, which will be longer than without it”
