Hey all!
Type 1 diabetes has been part of my life for close to 20 years. My reason for looking into Retatrutide came from two possible upsides: better blood sugar management and weight reduction. I don't have a huge amount to shed, but my goal is roughly 20lbs. With a metabolic disease, weight loss has been a real struggle for me. To reduce hypoglycemia risk, I began with a low, gradual dose. Right now I'm in Week 2 at 0.5mg.
The thing that has surprised me most is how quickly my blood sugar leveled out. I use a Dexcom G7 along with an Insulin Pump. My diet is lower carb and I focus on protein. Even though I'm only 1 and a half weeks in, I've managed to bring my fast acting insulin needs and insulin sensitivity down considerably. These days I take only about 5 units of fast acting insulin daily. Before this, I needed roughly 15 -20 units of fast acting insulin each day. On my Dexcom, the graph is almost a flat line - the highs and lows have basically vanished (my "time in range" has been 97%)!! It feels so liberating and removes a huge amount of stress from my daily life. Add to that the extra energy I have from avoiding big highs or lows (which especially helps with waking up during sleep).
I'm aware GLP's aren't usually prescribed for Type 1 Diabetes (only Type 2), due to possible hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis. That's why I'm watching my blood sugar extremely closely and testing for Ketones on a regular basis. So far, I'm more than happy with the results
Wondering whether any other Type 1 Diabetics are here and what your experience with Reta has been.
