Hey all. I'm currently on reta, 4th dose today at 1mg, upping to 1.5 or 2mg next Monday. Im happy with the way it's going, down 12lbs in 3 weeks and that's amazing for me. I've recently read about tirz and it's effect on sleep apnea and that's really tickled my pickle. I suffer from SA and despite my best efforts to wear a CPAP at night, I tear it off during sleep. How effective has tirz been for you guys who also suffer from SA and how is best to take it. I'm thinking reta Monday am and tirz Wednesday pm. Is that a good shout and how much would be beneficial?

Thanks!

I can’t speak for tirz, but I can for Reta. After a month on Reta I had lost a significant amount of weight and was no longer snoring at all at night.

I haven’t done any additional sleep studies since starting the Reta but I sleep so much better without the snoring constantly waking me up. Hard to say if the medication helps directly or if the weight loss from the medication has the biggest effect. Regardless, I do attribute my lack of snoring now to the reta

I haven't lost enough to determine if it's reduced my snorting yet, my gf hasn't mentioned it either so I'm assuming it's easing up. I am struggling with getting to sleep since starting reta so I'm on magnesium and cherry extract to help with that, but I don't wake up feeling as drained as I used to. Interesting to hear about tirz and SA

I also have apnea and read the studies. I do believe that the major contributor is losing weigth - no difference whether via tirz or reta

Took this from Google, "Tirzepatide (marketed as Zepbound) is the first FDA-approved medication specifically for treating moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity"

Obviously weight loss is the major factor in reducing SA.

The CPAP subreddit is quiet but responsive and supportive.

If you have a durable medical provider they should be helping you find a mask that is comfortable and workable. It can be an adjustment for sure.

I lost 20 lbs with Reta and was able to ditch my C-PAP. As @cheesecake said, it doesn’t matter which medication you use. It’s more about losing the weight (neck fat, upper airway fat). Zepbound (Tirz) is considered the go to for SA because it was “FDA Approved” for weight loss for people with SA. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lilly may have coughed up some money to have Zepbound labeled that way.

I've tried all masks and everything from the NHS. I just fight it on my sleep

I was prescribed Zepbound for my sleep apnea. That's what started my journey when name brand was not covered and out of my price range. A small compounding pharmacy was better, but then my whole world got opened up when I learned about gray. My machine says my events per hour have gone down significantly since I have lost 35 lbs. My dr seems to believe I may not need the machine at all if I can achieve my goal weight.

I’m on Tirz since April,2026 no snoring now

I've lost 125 pounds and thought that my sleep apnea was "cured" and felt that cpap was actually keeping me awake, so I talked with my pulmonogist's PA and she said I could "try" stopping cpap. That was about two months ago. I stopped and my sleep has still been crap, but I've been blaming it on the peptides. So, about a month ago I had a sleep study and got the results this week. I still have freaking sleep apnea 😡....

Thanks! I'm hoping. I've revised my weight loss goal and will try again.

My starting weight was 335, I was 210 a few weeks ago, but now I'm thinking that I might need to be sub-200lbs to ditch it, but that's the goal.

Good luck, I hope you can ditch it too.

I would think any kind of weight loss is going to help.... My sleep was actually WORSE with Reta.. and the major HRV reduction with the elevated RHR made me go back to mainly Tirz.

The Cpap is a pesty one.. I use one now.. and I have YET to be able to sleep with it at night. my UARS brain does not like the cpap and sleep (I have a mask I love too! (EVORA).

I do however use the machine when I sit at the computer and it "flips the switch" for me to parasympathetic tone.. it's bizarre but totally works...

I was hoping to ditch the machine as well. I just had Septoplasty done (about 4 1/2 weeks Post-Op) and even went so far to purchase Vik Veer's (NHS/London) Side Sleeping pillow and have it shipped to me in the states (Tariffs = Ouch😭😭).

It's a process, stick with it man... (or some call it "a slog").

I feel this one so hard… I’ve lost over 100 and I still have the OSA. Dang it!

I was unfortunately born with a small airway that causes my apnea. Even at my current weight, I still struggle. I just had a sleep test done and I continue to have almost 50 episodes an hour.

I hear my 13 year old mini me sleeping and he has it. I keep telling my wifey he needs a sleep test done. I think I’ve struggled with this since my teenage years too.

I was really hoping to alleviate this from my life with Tirz. It’s just not my case. Sad face.

On another note… I use a ResMed Pillows Mask. It’s a game changer. Sleeping very well most nights.

Oh wow! I think we have a lot in common looking at your signature. I'm also a gastric bypass survivor 😂.

My recent sleep study has my AHI at 9, which is down from 35 pre-tirzepatide. So better, but not resolved. It's possible that I'll never be rid of cpap. I probably have an airway issue too.

I use the ResMed F40. I wish I could use pillows, but I'm a mouth breather. Taped my mouth once to give pillows a try and had a panic attack.... Never had one of those before. Stopped taping. The tap worked a little too well. 🤣

I'm going to try to lose some more weight and have another sleep study.

I am noting that you plan to increase dose next Monday. You are losing weight, why would you increase your dose? Some people, and unfortunately doctors blindly follow the dosing plan adopted for trials. When weight is dropping, it is working. Why not stay on your current dose until you have a stall of four weeks or longer? People are in such a hurry.
