I used Robinhood to make a purchase (ETH sent to a vendor), and at the confirmation step I was presented with two choices: Ethereum Network or Robinhood Chain Network.

After selecting Ethereum Network, the transaction ended up failing.

So I tried the Robinhood Chain Network instead, and it returned 'COMPLETED'. I took a screenshot, forwarded it to the vendor, and asked them to verify. They said nothing arrived. The vendor and I spent 2 hours going back and forth, trying to track down this ETH.

I'm still without answers. I did come across something regarding a 'bridge' that says the funds are locked in a 7-day challenge period.

Could someone explain what might be happening here, and whether there's any way for me or the vendor to locate or recover the ETH?

If Robinhood Chain Network wasn't the network they anticipated, those funds are likely lost for good. Did they mention which chain they thought the payment would arrive on? It's frequently ethereum, solana, or tron.

The funds are still there, though the vendor is in for a rough time because bridging will be required on their end.

To recover the funds, the vendor's first step is importing the seed phrase from the wallet you used into one that is compatible with Robinhood chain. After that, bridging over to ETH becomes necessary, and you'll likely have to cover the fees by sending the vendor additional funds. Funds may not appear at all because Robinhood chain is still fairly new and plenty of wallets don't support it yet.

You can check the transaction by entering your address or the vendor's here: https://robinhoodchain.blockscout.com

Appreciate the reply. The payment was supposed to go through on ethereum. When I attempted to send it that way, it didn't work, so that's why I went with the robinhood chain instead.

Thanks for the offer. Could you expand on that a bit?

Never send to a vendor straight from Robinhood.
I appreciate it. I'd burned countless hours combing through every crypto thread out there, juggling several sources and bouncing funds around with 2, 3, 4 separate transfers, so seeing how straightforward robinhood seemed to make everything got me hopeful. Apparently that was wishful thinking. ☹️

That's accurate, though it hinges on whether the vendor would even bother.

Take the seed phrase from whichever wallet received it and import that. Could it really be as straightforward as the recipient opening a robinhood account and claiming it?

A 12-word seed phrase is what crypto addresses are normally derived from. Typically, these get created or brought in via an app such as Metamask, Base, Exodus, Rabby, Phantom, and whether Robinhood network is supported depends on the app. What they have to do is take the seed phrase belonging to the address that received your funds and import it into an app that does support it — Rabby definitely does, I know that. There's also a wallet app from Robinhood that will of course support the network, though that's a different thing from the Robinhood service app.

Getting them to go through this will be somewhat of a hassle, but the funds are definitely not lost.

That clears things up — I'm grateful for the assistance.

If the receiver never claims them, do the funds remain there indefinitely, or is there some timeframe in which they could be sent back? What occurs when the recipient doesn't claim them?

Sending tokens is irreversible—there is no claim process afterward.
