Curious how everyone is doing with Reta while also riding road bikes?

Does it make training harder for you?

Can you keep going for a set period before you eventually hit a wall?

My plan is roughly 14 weeks on Reta, aiming to shed 10kg (currently 100) by May, since I’m heading to the Pyrenees at the end of May for about 400 miles of riding, so dropping a solid 10kg is necessary for those mountain climbs.

What worries me is that once Reta kicks in, I might not be able to handle longer training rides lasting 2-6 hours?

Is anyone here coping, or completely struggling, with exercise over long durations?

I’ll be drinking a carb and electrolyte mix during these rides to stay fuelled….just hoping that does the trick 🤞🏼

My take is that you'll be fine. What matters even more is how you fuel your training. In my opinion, Reta makes it simpler to access body fat as a fuel source. Right now I'm in base training, though I aim to reduce to 1-2mg per week once the season starts. Base training has gone really well for me, except for a cold that has stuck around for more than a week.

Appreciate the response!

I’m also just keeping things ticking along with base training, though I’ll be moving into the build phase within the next 2 weeks or so!

Over in the UK there’s a sports drink by the name of tailwind that packs in a good amount of carbs and electrolytes to keep rides fuelled (it’s served me well during Ironmans and such), so it’d be a bonus if Reta also helps tap into fat stores 😍

At least the Reta ought to have worn off by the time I get on my long weekly ride, which usually falls on a Sunday — that’s also my pin day. So fuelling the night before and on the morning of should go smoothly.

Mind if I ask what mg you’re currently on, and how much have you dropped during your time using Reta?

I don't ride outdoors anymore, but I do Peloton sessions, and those can be tough. (I used to be a road cyclist.) The longer Peloton rides run 60-75 minutes and they do a good job of simulating outdoor riding. On Tirz I've lost 50+ lbs. I can say my outputs are higher on most of the rides I've done more than once. My endurance appears to have gone up. I've taken a few rides on bike trails and 1 hour feels easy. Thanks to the weight I've shed, I can get back on my carbon Colnago.

Right now I take 3mg each 5 days. 15 weeks in, and I've dropped 40lb. Low doses have given me huge results.
Losing that much would make me thrilled! Nice work 💪🏼

That's reassuring, cheers! Fancy doing a 3 hour one on my behalf and reporting back how it goes 😂

All kidding apart, the added weight loss during my rides is something I'm keen on — my only worry is whether it'll work against me on the longer 4 hour efforts 🤞🏼

Another thing to consider: my view is that GLPs and similar compounds can boost endurance performance, because the body shifts toward burning fat as fuel.

Diet is the deciding factor. When you follow an actual plan and log everything, the chance you succeed goes way up. Reta can keep you on that plan and might add a touch of magic now and then.

Anyone else riding with Reta? My easy Zone 2 spins have turned into Zone 3/4 efforts.
So when you say zone 3-4, are you talking about zone 3 to 4 — or does it mean three quarters of a zone (assuming that's actually a real thing 😂)

Mountain biker checking in. My resting heart rate had gone up, which worried me, yet my heart rate during cardio stayed the same. Without a power meter, I still had the sense that I was producing more power at any given heartrate. The only evidence I have is strava, and on mtb it's tough to say whether new records come from reta or from improved bike handling, better trail conditions, and so on. At that point I wasn't taking it at a weightloss dose, more for maintenance. (Endurance blocks cause my hunger to outpace my calorie needs.)

Fuelling still worked fine with Swedish fish and EFS first endurance.

I think reta's glucagon effect benefits endurance performance.

With any indoor bike, there’s no coasting and no downhill. 60 minutes indoors equals roughly 2 times the same duration outdoors. Take my word for it.

yeah, I get it — I've logged plenty of hours on the indoor trainer…there's zero relief!

Holding a steady pedal for at least 1 hour is brutal…the longest I've lasted is 2 x 1hr sessions one after the other 🤮

I haven’t been doing indoor biking for long. I’d taken a few spinning classes at the gym before. It caught me off guard how hard you can work during 1 hour.

Happy I came across this thread, since I was on the verge of making my own post. My "Kit" should show up within a few weeks, and I ride roads from April through Oct, roughly 2500 miles. Certain years it's higher, certain years lower. Still, what I wanted to ask was how Reta impacts rides. My rides are mostly with a group or alone, and occasionally a fondo, so there's nothing competitive beyond what I expect of myself.

What was training like, and how did u fuel it? Was there any dropoff, did you feel weak, or did everything come down to hydration and keeping protein up ? TY !

Runner here, mostly lurking… I just wanted to point you toward tirzepatideathletes on Reddit. When I last browsed it, it wasn’t as messy as a few of the other subs (dead internet), and people there talk about fueling and similar topics.

I get that tirz =\= reta, but the fueling and long session difficulties sound alike.

I made it only a few weeks on reta before I had to stop. The rx I’m on already bumps me up 5-10bpm, and this girl has her limits for patience to slow down. 🙃

Wishing you happy and healthy training!

Perhaps I'm simply not fit enough…

Yet my heart rate during what used to be a zone two effort landed in the 3-4 range. The elevated heart rate is actually why I stopped Reta. Over 100 for 8-10 hours.

After taking a month off, I've started again. This time I'm sticking strictly to the escalation from the trials. There are still occasional spikes above 100, though they last very briefly. This week I moved up to 4mg. When I quit, I was at 7.5.

If your goal weight is reached before the Pyrenees trip, why not simply quit Reta or drop to a small maintenance dose, so you can be sure you're able to fuel your rides properly?
