Pin less volume on Reta to avoid redness?

I recon'd 20mg vial with 2ml. Pinned 0.4ml for 4mg. But twice now I've gotten the redness and slight swelling in the pin site. Never had a problem with 0.3ml and below. Has anyone recon'd a 20mg vial with just 1ml so they don't have to pin as much volume? If so has that avoided the redness and have you noticed any difference in effectiveness? Should I pin 0.2ml in two different sites? I've also let it get to room temperature and pin very slowly but still get the reaction.
 
Doing the experiment of 2 separate injections of 0.2ml will answer the question of whether it is related to the volume of the injection. It is simple, easy, quick and gives an answer. More likely you are developing injection site allergic reactions, so the volume is not related to the reaction, just the drug itself. They are common and can be ignored if they are not too annoying, and there is no evidence of allergic reactions elsewhere not at the injection site. It could also be the bac water but allergic reaction to the drug is more likely. I am guessing reta?
 
Have you had any issues with your previous pins, and what was your starting dose? What are you using for syringes?

Yes its reta. Just never had a reaction when I pinned 0.3ml and below, which is why I was wondering if the volume was too much with 0.4ml. Thanks for the reply
 
The difference between those volumes should not make a difference. Is the batch different or are you using a single vial reseller? Seems more likely to be an endotoxin issue than a volume issue. Do you have endo testing for what you are using? Even if it is an endo reaction, it is unlikely be be a real problem at weekly dosing at those concentrations but it may be something you have to live with until you get a better batch.

Same batch. The reaction does go away after about 5 days. I just obviously pick a different site when I do my next pin.

Might have just hit a spot. I've done it twice. Once, no clue why. Second, I had put the needle into the stopper a couple of times, and it dulled the heck out it. I literally had to push hard to break the skin. BD 31g 8mm. That sucked, and never again. Now I get a new syringe.

It doesn't change anything exactly, I did it for convenience, I didn't like injecting 0.4 ml, 0.2 is much more comfortable

No change. You need to do this on the bigger vials. I'm at 8mg, but mixed a R50, actually 56mg real volume with 3ml BAC. So I pin 43units/.43ml to get 8mg.

With the side benefit of needing half the Hospira. No small deal in the current environment.

As someone that just tests with Reta, there’s no way I’m going to be able to use up a whole 30ml Hospira vial at this rate, so I figure to just fill everything to 3mL.

It's good for more than 28 days. I use mine till it's gone. Don't mix all the Reta at once. What size vials of Reta are you using?

Yeah, I’m not going to mix them all at once. At 2mg per month with a 10mg kit… that will last over 10 months if the dose doesn’t increase.

Now, the dose probably will, but if it doesn’t that’s probably a long time to keep a single BaC water.
