My husband suffers from really severe gout attacks. They're completely debilitating. He sees doctors...controls his diet as much as possible, yet the flares still come and leave him unable to function. We've been exploring peptides for a while, but only for weight management so far. Wondering if anyone here has dealt with gout and discovered any peptides that ease a flare up.
Just for
FUN, several research peptides—such as certain rice-derived or other experimental candidates—have demonstrated anti-gout activity in mouse studies, though none are realistically obtainable for actual use at this time.
RDP1, RDP2, and RDP3 (Rice-Derived Peptides) were isolated from ordinary white rice (
Oryza sativa).
In mouse and rat research, these short peptides (roughly 8-9 amino acids in length) produced potent effects: they suppressed xanthine oxidase the same way allopurinol does, brought uric acid down, lessened kidney injury, and eased inflammation caused by urate crystals.
In those studies,
RDP2 and RDP3 specifically acted on
all stages of gout — covering both prevention of hyperuricemia and reduction of acute flares.
R14 — obtained from
wild rice (
Oryza minuta) leaves. Its primary action is against the inflammatory cascade (NLRP3 inflammasome and IL-1β) that gout crystals set off.
The groups behind this work are based in China (with publications in journals such as
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry and
Food & Function). Animal models look very promising, but these are
not sold as commercial peptides for people. They remain at the lab/experimental stage.
Other Experimental Ones:
A few peptides derived from spider venom (for example
NCTX14 or
NCTX15).
Certain peptides from tuna or other food protein hydrolysates.
Synthetic options, including optimized short forms of the rice peptides (such as the hexapeptide RDP1-M3).
This is
cool science, yet none of it is a practical choice in today's peptide gray market. If you're looking into peptides for your husband, stay with
BPC-157 (and possibly TB-500) — those are the ones people actually turn to and share experiences about for gout flare relief. Sourcing or safely dosing the rice peptides isn't realistic at present.
Before trying anything, always involve his doctor.
