Wondering whether anyone here has tried any protocols on horses? Which compound did you give, and were there any positive or negative effects you observed?

Edit: just to be clear - administering peps TO a horse. Not looking to inject horse medications. 😂

Thanks!

Oh, you and @FarmgirlRebel definitely need to chat. She'll be along.

...horses putting on weight as well? That's news to me.
Yeah, I've got a chubby little pony! 😂 That said, no—not GLPs.

I'm mainly exploring options aimed at performance horses. I'm thinking along the lines of joint support, reducing inflammation, and helping them heal.

I'll return this evening. At the moment, I'm at a racetrack watching Skijoring!

I'm injecting a few horses. I'll come back to talk later. I'm at a racetrack watching skijoring!

That looks like so much fun — I've watched it before. If I were a few years younger, I'd give it a shot. 😂

My rescue mare and an older gelding are both now receiving BPC-157 alongside TB500.

It's only been roughly 7 days since they began, so I haven't observed anything yet.

Horses typically weigh around 5x what an average person does, but I chose not to multiply the dose by 5.

For both horses I introduced a single peptide first, BPC157, beginning at 500mcg daily across 3 days, then raised it to 1mg each day... TB500 was added afterward, starting at 5mg twice weekly, and that has only been going for a couple of days now.

What I want out of this is support for both tissue and tendons. My older gelding deals with a bit of stringhalt and arthritis, though neither is severe (during summer ride season I also give Adequan injections)... As for my rescue mare, she arrived extremely thin and damaged. She's doing well now, but she also has an injury to her right hock that I hope will heal and settle.

I'm considering adding KPV for her too. Her gut has been giving her real trouble, and I believe it would work well alongside the BPC, but I need to look into it further and might end up running it by itself. I haven't decided yet.

I'm aware that many performance barns use BPC and TB... however BPC is prohibited in certain WADA and other sports industry settings, and I believe in racing too. It's a shame, since these don't carry anywhere near the gut-health side effects that Butte does.

Appreciate the details! I hope your mare and gelding both show some progress.

There are a few horses here I figured could be helped, though the one I'm most focused on at the moment is my 16yo gelding.

A few years back he dealt with a rough case of EPM. It left him with notable muscle atrophy along with neurological symptoms. He went through EPM treatment (these days he remains on a maintenance dose of EPM meds), plus physical therapy, supplements, and so on, and while he's come a long way he isn't fully back to 100%.

I'd like to offer him some extra support, particularly for his joints. In the past he received steroid and HA hock+stifle injections every 6 months, but since the EPM he can no longer handle the steroids.

He's still eventing, though only locally for now, nothing rated at this point. So banned substances aren't really an issue.

It's great that you've managed to keep EPM under control for that long. A friend of mine had a horse that went through an extremely lengthy and costly course of treatment, and in the end it simply didn't work.

My reasoning is this: BPC and TB show really favorable safety profiles across every animal study out there, and as far as I know there isn't even a lethal dose established for either peptide...so I thought, trying it carries no real downside and there's a chance it could do some good! I'm aware that certain racing stables administer it during the off season, or when a horse is taken out of training for rest or a layup, but frankly it's ridiculous that it isn't permitted at all times, given how much safer it is compared to the NSAIDs that do get approved. My guess is that it comes down to access being uneven and the fact that no patent covers it, pharma has a strong grip on the animal world too.
