While looking into a different health/fitness topic, I came across this forum and decided to join. For a number of years now, N=1 research has been something I follow closely. Back in 2024, I began working with a lab service that runs every test imaginable, and it became clear that my existing diet and exercise routine was no longer sufficient as I get older (55F). After that, I went all in with diet, exercise and weights, HRT, peptides, and more. Most of the areas I am working on are now in the optimal zone, but 1 thing remains unresolved: striking the right balance so my A1c comes down without weight loss (I am already small at 58kg/65cm). I have polygenic diabetes, which was found when I was a teen, and my A1c has typically sat around 6.2. At that time, I began metformin and adjusted my diet, but that only brings me to 5.9-6. Since I found glp compounds, I can at last reach the 5.2-5.4 range. However, keeping weight stable then requires me to watch daily caloric intake VERY carefully. Why is glycemic control so important to me? There is dementia in my family, and I carry 1 copy of the APOE4 gene. Fasting BGs in the 120s is not something I am willing to accept. Agents that can cause hypoglycemia tend to affect me that way, so I now steer clear of them. So here I am! Usually I lurk, search, and study, but I will do my best to post as well!
