Today marked my first appointment since starting my weight loss journey, and my doctor was impressed by how much weight I've lost. I explained that I'd been using grey market Tirzepatide. He wanted to know whether I was being safe with it, so I described all the research I'd done, and he was pleased. He ordered blood work and mentioned that we could discuss stopping my cholesterol meds and reducing my BP meds. He also agreed to prescribe an Epi pen for me to keep at home in case it's ever needed. How awesome is that?

That's great news! It's wonderful that your doctor backs you on this. Having everyone informed and supportive really does make the whole journey smoother.

I did it! When I got home I shared the news with my wife, and her reaction was basically "Meh." So I figured I'd let my forum friends know instead — you all will be way more excited about this than she was.

It feels like attitudes are shifting on this topic. A few weeks back I had a conversation with my doctor about using off-brand Tirz, and it went just as smoothly; he was really positive about how much progress I'd made and also put in orders for a large panel of labs.

He told me straight out that among everyone he's prescribed Tirz to, not a single one has gotten insurance approval (apart from Diabetics). That's why he had no issue at all with me getting it from other sources.

When I spoke to him, I said "compounded" — I was afraid that if I came out and admitted full-on black market use, I'd be seen as a drug seeker.

Before the FDA moved to shut it down, my local doctor was writing prescriptions for compounded versions, though I doubt he still does.

I was completely upfront with mine and said it came directly from China. No holding back. 🤣

It was actually my doctor who put me on tirzepatide in the first place. He talked me into going with the brand-name version. In time, he wrote me a script for 15 mg pens, which I divided into 5 mg doses. He had no problem with that either. Later on, I found out about gray and explained to him that I'm using compounded tirzepatide, which is the reason I no longer need a prescription. He's fine with that too, and I'm not the only one of his patients on compounded. Still, I'm very hesitant to take the next step and admit to him that I use gray and retatrutide. I'm a doctor myself, yet I have no idea how he'd react, so I've kept quiet about the rest.
