Once a plateau drags on for months, self doubt and discouragement start to build, and that little number on the scale stops being something I want to look at.

Months have gone by without the scale budging. I made my calorie deficit stricter, added more exercise, and did everything I know can help restart progress (I've been through this before). Yet there was 1 thing I hadn't touched since the start? Measurements.

Yes, my clothing sizes were different… but how many inches had actually come off? What sticks with me most from my first measuring session was that the tape wasn't long enough to go around my hips. That was my WTF moment, "how in the heck did I allow myself to get here" it was absolutely depressing. So this week I finally got the tape measure out, and I'm so glad I did, 10" off my hips and 8" off my waist, 4 off my thighs. I forgot to measure my arms at the start, but if I had to guess, it would be at least 3"

If your journey is a long one like mine, don't put all your trust in the scale, keep track of the inches. That progress changed my mindset 🙂

Happy Easter to those that Celebrate!

That scale? More like a foe than a friend, and I barely believe a word it says. Its readings are all over the place and its math leaves a lot to be desired. We go way back to my childhood, so I keep it around, but given a better option, out the door it would go.

So absolutely, use other ways to track how far you've come, and savor every one of those wins.

Wishing everyone a great holiday season!

Throwing it out — that's a move I can get behind. Some days, though, throwing it out doesn't cut it LOL

Dexa scans are fantastic. I used to get them once a year, and the amount of useful data they provide is huge. Body fat percentage is clearly valuable, but even more important is that they offer a solid estimate of muscle mass—which is incredibly easy to shed while on GLP meds. These days, since I've finished losing weight and am fully focused on gaining muscle, I'm getting them every 6 months. My first one didn't happen until I'd already been losing for a year, and I seriously regret not having it done earlier.

I'm in the same boat—taking measurements gives the truest picture of how things are actually going.
