Just putting this out there for anyone who might be considering giving it a shot. Once you reach the payment screen showing $79.99, press the back button. The price falls to $59.99. Press back once more and it goes down to $39.99. That's what happened for me a moment ago, anyway. If you plan on tracking calories and that sort of thing, it seems like a fair deal. Still beats jotting everything down by hand. But when I saw $80 I figured maybe I'd go with Noom for free through my job instead. And put up with the group, the CBT handholding

For years I’ve stuck with the free tier of MyFitnessPal. It’s incredibly straightforward to use.

Put a reminder to cancel LoseIt! one year from today, and in that reminder I added a note telling myself to look into MyFitnessPal.

One more thing: watch for lifetime deals that LoseIt! runs. I've had the app on my phone since 2014 and have gone back and forth between the free and paid tiers, but a year or two back I snagged a lifetime membership offer that included every feature for around $50. (It might have popped up because I chose not to renew my yearly paid plan, kind of like what @Mushmouth did by tapping "back".)

These days my only real use for it is weight tracking, but the food database they've built is genuinely impressive, the layout is tidy and simple to navigate, and I simply adore it!

Since 2021 I've been using the loseit app. It's among the handful of apps where I actually spring for the paid upgrade, and if I remember right, that runs me 19.99 a year. Definitely worth recommending.

When the subscription was purchased via the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, cancelling it right away only stops the renewal. Until the paid period runs out, the benefits you already paid for remain available.

Free trials can behave differently. Cancelling one of those can sometimes cut it off immediately. With a paid subscription, though, there's no need to wait for the end date in order to cancel and prevent renewal.

One more point... Buying a subscription through an app's website can sometimes be cheaper. For LoseIt! that doesn't appear to be the situation, but it does happen sometimes. That route avoids the 30% cut taken by the Apple or Google app store.

What an incredible deal! Their website lists it at $299. Perhaps Black Friday deals come around sometimes...?
