Hey all,

I’ve just signed up after a fair amount of time spent reading up on GLP-1s and other weight loss treatments.

About 8 months into this now, and I’ve dropped a little under 100 lb so far. When I started I had a lot to lose, so it’s been a major shift for me and I’m still figuring things out along the way.

My goals are to keep pushing my health forward, get a clearer picture of what others have gone through, and take on board practical tips about weight loss, training, diet, and keeping things going over the long haul.

I’m planning to start at a gym before long, so I’d also like to hear how other people have handled exercise while shedding weight and building fitness back up.

Glad to be here and keen to chat with folks as I look around and pick things up.

What sort of guidance are you after? Regardless of whether you're on GLP, keto, or something else, boosting protein intake and doing resistance training are likely the primary methods to reduce muscle loss during weight loss.

Truth be told, I have zero gym experience — not once have I set foot in one!! Now that the weight is gone, I feel really weak and want to rebuild some strength, but I'm completely lost on how to begin!

Plenty of tools exist for this. Caliber is the app I rely on — it builds sessions around whatever gear and plates you can get to. Want dumbbells and barbells? It spits out a routine for those. Prefer machines? Same deal. A paid tier exists and they'll push it, though it isn't required. Ease into it, and don't skimp on recovery or protein. That's the approach that's worked in my case.

welcome. From what I've found, working out comes down more to routine and self-control than to anything else. Turning it into a ritual makes a big difference

Could you explain what ritualizing involves? Staying consistent is a big challenge for me (across many areas of life), and the gym is especially hard.

Apologies for responding so late. What I'm getting at is building a set routine you repeat every day around your training. Here's how mine goes:

-arrive home after work

-change into my gym gear

-sprawl out on the floor to stretch (and doze a bit) for roughly 15 minutes

-remind myself to hurry up and start, since dinner comes only once the workout is done.

I know it sounds odd, but having that pre-workout routine is what keeps me showing up for the workout

I’ve begun hitting the gym before work, roughly 6am, but I’m discovering I’m far weaker than I expected — likely a combination of the weight loss and eating so few calories!

A new environment like the gym is always going to feel intimidating, but I just tell myself nobody cares. I still have to work out how to operate most of the machines!

Right now I’m researching mots-c and maybe ghkcu. Any other feedback or suggestions are more than welcome, main goal to build strength and a decent physique - 6'3 and 107kg as it stands.
