40m, living in the UK. It wasn’t until last summer that I really learned about GLP1s, when I happened to come across Reta, and that initial run with it was incredible.

There are a few things I’ve battled with over the years. Around 10 years ago I dropped a lot of weight with no medication at all - roughly 16 stone down to 11 stone - and although that was a huge positive, I’ve dealt with a string of metabolic problems ever since. Across that whole stretch, Reta is the one thing that actually made a difference, and it made a massive one, not just for that but for several other side benefits (especially my drinking habits!).

The catch? I still don’t know why, but I haven’t managed to recreate that fantastic first-time result. It could be that what I’m getting isn’t the right product, or that I’m making a mistake somewhere. That’s the reason I’m here. To get support with getting back on track.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Thanks

J

Could it be that your GLP-1 receptors have grown less responsive as time has gone on? What dose are you on? When you track how things are going, is it only the scale you’re watching, or do you also pick up on differences in hunger or energy? From what I’ve seen, those quieter changes can still show that the medication is doing something.

Appreciate that - seems like a pretty accurate way to put it.

Reddit is how I came across this community, and my aim is to learn enough to reach a depth that’s maybe a bit hard to get over there. With any luck, the community can help me figure out where things are going sideways and get me moving forward again, since right now I’m extremely frustrated.

A good chunk of that frustration is probably aimed at myself. After Christmas I gave myself a handful of “lazy” weeks, figuring that whatever weight I put on would disappear once I was back on the Reta (and more “on it” mentally), exactly the way it did the first time. So far, that hasn’t been the case. That one’s on me, though.

I’ve thought about that as a potential explanation, but I wasn’t sure if it’s genuinely a thing that occurs to any real extent.

Weight is my main gauge. My very first Reta shot went in on a Sunday night. By Wednesday morning I could tell some weight had come off, and sure enough, the scale showed roughly 5lbs down. Come Friday it read 8lbs - and I wasn’t carrying extra weight to begin with, I just wanted to be leaner (which had been hard to pull off without a bit of “assistance”). If I remember right, the hunger blunting kicked in a few days after that - I’ve got records of everything.

Now, roughly a week in this time, there’s nothing to feel and nothing different on the scale. So it’s likely down to one of these:

  • The stuff I have isn’t actually “Reta”
  • My dose is too low (I’ve never gone above 2.5mg)
  • For some reason I’m not responding to Reta anymore, or the response is just much slower this time

I’ve got to figure out which one applies, then decide what to do next. Waiting for results doesn’t bother me; it’s that things aren’t unfolding the way they did initially, which is irritating and a bit worrying. With any luck this forum can help me troubleshoot. Fingers crossed, anyway!
