Hey folks, greetings from Regina, SK. Raj-eye-nah, not Rah-jee-nah, is how it's pronounced, and locally it's nicknamed "the city that rhymes with fun," haha.
Just over a year now on Mounjaro/Zepbound 5 mg. Weight has been a struggle all my life, along with incessant food noise (the term was new to me, I called it "food addiction") and the strange effect that eating always left me hungrier, which meant regular binging to the point of extreme discomfort, healthy food included. Every pound wants to cling on thanks to PCOS. Exercise kept it manageable and I rowed at least an hour daily. Great for my mental health and it genuinely made me happy - very meditative, and I was very fit.
Being off work on disability put a lot of weight on, and getting healthy again before surgery was the goal. The day after my first 2.5 mg shot, tirzepatide silenced the food noise, and for the first time I'd feel like I ate enough and simply stop. Interest in alcohol went too. The problem is it suppresses my appetite too far, protein especially. Exercise hasn't been possible and I was on maybe 800 calories per day, around 50 g protein. Below 5 mg the noise returns, alcohol included. 40 pounds came off, along with a lot of muscle. Skinny fat is where I've landed, normal BMI but obese by body fat percentage. Running my hand over my arm the other day, I realised my delts had completely gone, just a flat line down from my shoulder. :'( This isn't healthy, and working out to rebuild isn't possible right now.
Money is tight while off work, and the $400/month for Zepbound is beyond me anyway. Retatrutide, I read, suppresses appetite less while raising energy expenditure. That intrigued me. Protein is what I need more of. And eating has to be relearned, choices included. Eating healthy is easy with zero appetite, pushing to maximize nutrients on such a low volume of food.
Decreasing/stopping tirzepatide and starting retatrutide was my plan. 7 days ago took 0.5 mg of retatrutide, 5 days ago 5 mg tirzepatide, 4 days ago 0.8 mg reta, and yesterday 1 mg reta. 2 mg reta/week with titration up is the intention - partial doses first just to test GI reaction. If appetite suppression goes too far, the tirz gets adjusted as needed.
Hunger came back the day after starting reta. Appropriate rather than ravenous. Extra stomach acid was my assumption. Cravings are absent but eating has been possible. Surprisingly, my resting heart rate has decreased. Last night brought insomnia and feeling wired, but otherwise no negative side effects yet. Shot days bring more energy. Random, but my whole life I've woken with a puffy face regardless of fluid or salt. Now I get up in the night for the bathroom and wake looking normal. Strange, but happy with it.
So there's my life story, hahaha. Anyone who read the whole thing gets a purple monkey dishwasher. Advice and constructive criticism welcome. Just not about the length of this post... my days are fairly empty, so this was a good activity!
