Middle-aged guy here who has never carried extra weight. I've spent years as an athlete in a power/bodyweight-focused sport. Last year I was going through 5-8 cups of coffee daily plus 30-40 grams of nicotine per day, mostly as a way to blunt appetite and cope with a high-stress job.

About 2-months back I began Reta, aiming to quiet food noise while getting in shape for the season. A surprise upside: nicotine and caffeine are both gone entirely. I'd already been working on quitting nicotine, yet giving up coffee seemed impossible. With Reta, shutting the door on nicotine was simple, and for the first time in years I titrated my caffeine down until it hit zero.

Dosing was 2mg/week across 8 weeks. Fat loss wasn't my objective; I wanted body recomp after the offseason. I'm down 5lbs, my waist is 1.5" smaller, and my abs have returned. Reta made the whole thing effortless. Sleep disruption is the one notable downside. Because of that, I plan to step down to 1mg Reta and layer in either Tirz or Cag.

One more plus: the junk food that surrounds me at work no longer tempts me. Bagels, cookies, donuts, chocolates, Keurig machines — it's nonstop. None of it registers for me anymore.

After I get my sleep dialed in, I'll go back to 1-2 cups of coffee a day since I genuinely enjoy it, and I think moderate intake carries some health advantages.

What a fascinating scenario — this isn't your standard "weight loss" narrative in the slightest.

Kicking nicotine and caffeine the way you did is no small feat. Plenty of folks can barely handle giving up one of them, so the fact that Reta seems to have flipped that switch for you speaks volumes about what it's doing to the reward and impulse circuits in your brain.

Plus, the outcomes line up nicely with what you were after:

  • a modest dip on the scale
  • smaller waist
  • visible abs again
For a recomp, that's precisely the kind of progress you'd hope for.

The sleep angle tracks — you're far from alone in dealing with that while on Reta. Backing off the dosage and fine-tuning from there is a wise approach.

And that "junk food everywhere stops mattering" phenomenon ranks among the most significant everyday-life improvements these compounds offer.

All in all, a very thoughtfully constructed plan. I'm eager to find out how your sleep shapes up after you make those adjustments 👍

Seeing this makes me think there might be a chance for me to quit too — I go through roughly 5 nicotine pouches daily (9mg each), which adds up to 45mg total.

Caffeine is usually something I keep in check; I cap it at 300-400mg altogether and stop by 1pm most days.

Appreciate you posting this!

Because Reta caused me too many sleep problems, I stopped it and started Tirz 2.5 q6day 3-weeks ago.

Appetite suppression is about the same. Night sweats are gone so far. I'll check again at 60 days.

Glad it worked out for you—personally, I'm not giving up my coffee or my 50mg pablos!

Just began my Reta journey yesterday, and the impulse control advantages have really caught my attention. Glad to hear about your direct experience.
