INTRO New type 1 diabetic here

Welcome aboard! Happy to have you with us 👍

Good to hear that 1mg is already giving you noticeable effects. That bodes well. Since you're Type 1, watching how your A1C and insulin requirements shift down the road should be quite informative.

Can't wait to hear how things go. Have you picked up on anything different yet?

All the best,

My glucose spikes seem to come on with a delay compared to what's usual. Because of that, I've adjusted the way I take insulin. At this point, Reta's effects taper off as the week goes on, yet roughly 1 to 2 days following the injection, my glucose readings sit in ideal ranges. I'll post an update later once my A1C gets checked in 3 months!

That's quite fascinating, and to be honest it matches observations a few others have made as well.

If gastric emptying has slowed down, then later spikes are logical, which explains why your insulin timing would need tweaking. Those days of "perfect range" immediately following the shot are a strong indicator that it's helping your control in a good way.

I'm wondering whether you'll change how you pre-bolus, or simply move your timing around in general while you fine-tune things. Please do update us about that A1C. Seems like you're moving in a positive direction 👍

After I inject, I see my glucose hold steady for 1-2 days, then it's at its best on days 3-4, and once day 6 comes around the effect is gone. My dose may be too low, but since I'm only in week 2, I won't increase it for now.

From what I've seen, 2 is the usual starting point. Would splitting the dose possibly keep your glucose steadier?

Just wondering — do you check your ketones at all? With GLP1s and T1DM there’s a bit of theoretical worry about ketosis, though I’m not sure there’s real clinical evidence behind it. I’d be interested to hear whether you’ve seen anything shift on that front.

Ketones, for me, tend to show up only when my glucose runs high. I have not been checking them. That topic sounds worth looking into further.

From what I can tell, ketosis tends to happen when folks don't consume enough carbs. If you make an effort to include carbs, things appear to work out okay.
