INTRO My Journey: 80kg Lost with Mounjaro and Switching to Retatrutide

Hey all! I've just joined this GLP1Chat after reading quietly for some time, and I figured it was finally time to tell my story. Maybe it'll motivate somebody, or at least get a good conversation going.

My journey began close to 2 years back, when I weighed roughly 175kg and felt utterly lost and trapped. I'd cycled through so many diets and workout routines without lasting success, until my doctor put me on Mounjaro (tirzepatide) because of diabetes. That changed everything! With my appetite under control and my energy levels stable, I could finally stick to better food choices and increase my activity. Roughly 10 months later, I'd dropped an incredible 80kg – now sitting at 95kg, a normal weight. It's like I've become someone else: far more self-assured, in better health, and actually enjoying daily life instead of fighting it.

Still, progress has stalled lately, so after talking it over with my healthcare team, I'm making the change to retatrutide. It's still being tested, but the early data suggests it might work even better, particularly for people whose progress has stalled on other GLP-1/GIP medications. I'm roughly a month in and already seeing things move again – and the side effects have been lighter than I'd braced for. I'll share more as things develop!

I'd really like to hear from anyone who's done a similar swap, or who has advice for handling the switch. Thanks for being such a welcoming community! 😊
Wishing you the same level of success. Congrats, and glad you're here!

Nice work dropping that weight! If tirz stops working for me, I may give the same approach a shot, though I'll deal with it at that point. Was it your medical team that recommended Reta, if I understood you correctly?
Thanks. No, it wasn't advised. I talked it over, but I'll be upfront with my Dr. and let him know after I've begun it.
You talked about Reta with a physician in Germany? So you were open about using gray?

Sure, why not? Last week I also went to a cardiologist for a check-up. She asked what medications I take. I told her about my Tirzepatide and Retatrutide stack. My bigger worry was that she wouldn't recognize either name! I'm going to find a different doctor — that was my first visit there.

It's shocking when a cardiologist has no idea about GLP-1 medications, particularly given how much they help heart health!

I've also mentioned to my family doctor that I plan to begin Reta at some point, though I didn't say I'd already started, just because we haven't talked since.

Overview of 3 weeks:

Combining MJ (13 mg) with Reta (2 mg) produced a drop of -5,1 KG -11,24 lbs.

Over the 5 weeks since MJ was raised to 15 mg and then stacked with Reta, the reduction has been:

-6,7 KG -14,77 lbs.

I've begun moving over from triz to Reta, and honestly it doesn't seem to be working as well as triz did for me.
Same here! I'm seriously thinking about going back to Tirz 😩 After 14 months on Tirz, I hit a stall, so I hoped Reta would be a miracle drug. But so far, Reta has left me bitterly disappointed because I've gained weight - not exactly the result I wanted 😅

Tirz had me stuck and I was actually putting weight back on. Combining Tirz with Reta ended up being effective in my case.

A full month has passed at this point, and the strength of the effect has climbed substantially. In terms of how it feels upstairs, I'd give the edge to tirz, yet Reta hits the fullness signal so hard that even a small amount of food brings on queasiness.

With Triz, meals weren't really on my mind, and I could still take pleasure in eating. Reta brought a bit of the "food noise" back, except now I feel like a machine with zero appetite for food lol. All things considered, Triz was the nicer ride, but the extended half life, a touch more energy, the cost, and that indifference to food on Reta ended up growing on me.

Unfortunately, going back to tirz is my only option, since I'm in a country again where getting hold of syringes is about as hard and restricted as it gets. Reta and bac water are literally purchasable, yet injecting them isn't possible 😤.

So hang in there, the improvement is wayyy bigger than you'd expect. Consider me envious lol.

Great, I'll give that a shot. I've been stuck at a plateau for 4 weeks, and right now I'm on Triz 8.5

Thanks for posting this!! I figure I'll need to take a similar route since tirz alone is already leaving me stuck at a plateau

I'm just wondering, out of curiosity — does your healthcare team actually suggest getting Reta from the grey market instead of Mounjaro from a pharmacy? I'm not sure there are any medical services here in Canada that would offer me that option.

Whatever you decide to use is up to you—no physician needs to give permission. I simply inform my doctors that I'm on it. That's all there is to it. And conversely, I don't blindly accept every recommendation or prescription a doctor gives me either!

Given your situation, my suggestion would be to begin at 1 mg of Reta while lowering the Tirz. to match.
