Female looking to expand family, but very anxious about going back on glp-1’s after having been a slow responder and on max dose.

I’ve struggle with binge eating disorder my entire life. I used adderall as a crutch throughout and was able to go down from 230 to 158 in about 6 months in 2014. Fast forward to 2022 and through many weight fluctuations, I had a baby. I went from 170 to 275 in 9 months, then back to 230 where I could not budge from for over 1.5 years. In April 2024 I decided to throw in the towel and went on triz and am now back to 160, doing 15 mg triz every two weeks as maintenance.

I cannot explain how much this has changed my life. I’ve struggled with self image my entire life… after I had my son I hated myself. I would miss outings due to spiraling over the way I looked because I just wanted to stay home. I finally can put on clothes and not want to crawl out of my skin when I’m in public.

My husband recently approached me about baby #2 which led me here. I do want another baby, but the thought of losing myself again has made me push back any plans further and further to the point I’ve been pushing not having anymore kids. And know I want another baby and I would immensely regret it one day if I don’t. At this point, I’m afraid triz won’t work again given I’m already on the highest dosage.

It wasn’t until yesterday I discovered this gray area where things like Reta are options. To be honest, I feel like an idiot for paying out of pocket for triz the last 2ish years. I feel an immense sense relief that there might be more options for me.

I want to know if anyone has been in similar situations as me and if they had luck losing weight a second time after maxing on triz and/or if Reta was helpful.

I’d be lying if I said I was working out, I for sure have lost muscle mass so I’m wondering if building muscle mass before getting pregnant would help. I’m open to others thoughts and experiences.

Also, is 15 mg really the max or are we able to adjust? This is all new to me so please weigh in!

Thank you all in advance.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm not a doctor, or an expert at anything relevant here, but I could almost guarantee building some muscle would be helpful to increase your BMR. I think most doctors recommend coming off the GLP meds before trying to conceive. Maybe helpful to make a plan on how to build some muscle and then titrate yourself down that way its not just a sudden stop. Again, not a doctor so probably something you want to plan out with your Healthcare provider.
