Hi all! Delighted to be here, and keen to learn from this community.

My weight-loss story has been long and full of changes. A Lap-Band was in place for about 20 years, and at my lightest it took me down to around 145 pounds. For many years that band served me really well, but the pandemic arrived along with extra life stress, the weight began creeping up, and losing it again became harder and harder. In the end I climbed back to around 245 pounds.

Nothing serious ever went wrong with the band, no complications. The decision to have it out came recently, purely because the benefit it used to give me had gone. My reasoning was simple: if the tool has stopped working, there's little point keeping it. No further bariatric surgery has happened, and for the moment I'm concentrating on other routes to a healthy weight I can hold onto.

Semaglutide became central to that journey, taking about 40 pounds off from my peak of 245. Initially the experience was genuinely positive. Then, sadly, several surgeries landed close together and I had to pause it for a while. Roughly 10 pounds returned during all that, and once semaglutide was restarted, it no longer seemed anywhere near as effective as it had been before the gap.

Somewhere in the region of 40-50 pounds is still there to lose, and this whole experience has sharpened my interest in GLP-1 medications, metabolic health, newer research, and the reasons our responses to these drugs can shift over time.

Perimenopause is part of my picture too, with HRT currently in use. Hair loss has become another frustration, so I've been trying to understand how hormones, nutrition, weight loss, medications, muscle mass and overall metabolic health all interlock.

And physically, what a year it has been! A total hip replacement was done about three months ago, and rebuilding strength and mobility is still a work in progress. Shoulder pain continues as well, so recovery, holding on to muscle, looking after joints and tissue, and getting my body moving comfortably again are all high priorities at the moment.

Researching and understanding the "why" behind things is far more my style than chasing whatever is trending. What I hope to learn more about: GLP-1s and emerging research, metabolic health, healthy ageing, keeping muscle while losing weight, recovery, and the experiences of others wrestling with similar challenges.

I'm keen to read through the wealth of information already on here, learn from everyone, and hopefully contribute as I go.

Thanks for having me! Glad to be here, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
