Hey everyone, Jon Spartan here.
Some of you probably recognize me from "Demolition Man." While I was on ice, the world went soft, and eventually they woke me up to rescue everybody. I've also got some unanswered questions about those 3 sea shells, though that's a topic for another time.
I traded the west coast for NY. Training is my passion. Talking about training is my passion. My whole approach to it is holistic. Want to know what keeps you humble? Six weeks in Barcelona doing Cardio Barre classes as the lone guy, with zero idea what the instructor is saying, while giving it 100%. I could rant forever about why guys need more of this kind of thing (short version: our small muscles shrink; mobility matters more as we get older).
To me, lifting weights is just housekeeping. Hulk size isn't the goal; I came up in an era when Brad Pitt in Fight Club was the rockstar physique. Still is, as far as I'm concerned. Last year I got close to that once. Trained like an animal.
What I didn't understand was all this wear and tear our joints take with age. I had my left shoulder/AC Joint cleaned up and a loose bone roughly 1.5cm taken out. A week after that, I broke my foot jump roping with my nephew (yes, it sounds totally lame). Both injuries on the left side. The foot is okay; in a few weeks it should be near full go. The shoulder means boring rehab. Tedious, but necessary right now. I could rant forever about this too.
I'm sure this is boring all of you. Workouts I love most: standing military press, pull-ups -- I love pull-ups. Archers and everything, I can do them. Best $20 a man can spend is on a pull up bar from Amazon for the house, imo. And the best ROI is CORRECT push ups. Dear God, any man who can't do a correct pushup gets judged by me. A floor is all you need. Personally, I do the Moby Flower pushup challenge. Best ROI. 2-3 minutes of that a few times a week and results will show. Also, ATG squats. If you're not doing ATG squats I also judge you.
And don't @ me about the weirdos who say pushups are stupid. They exist. I served in the Army. There's a reason everyone looks the way they do after they get out of basic: it's because they did 400-600 CORRECT pushups a day. Best ROI, I tell ya.' All you need is a floor and 2-3 minutes.
Anyway. I'm at that age where shit is wearing down and getting injured. I read about STEM. Read about peptides. And now I've gone down a rabbit hole and maing this post.
But yea. I love training. Love talking shop. And want to maintain, delay or help preserve my joints.
Oh, here is another thing people will hate me for: I believe Fiber is more important than Protein. You can market the crap out of protein, but not fiber.
Find me someone eating 30-40g of fiber a day, and that person will be in shape and live a long life. You just need a healthy chunk of protein, imo. I don't measure or do macro science stuff. If that's you're thing, cool. I do not judge you. You're like a high end chef or something; I'm like a chef that eyeballs everything.
So, that's me. Live in NY. Chicago Bears fan. I like video games, watches, and training.
Please feel free to flame me; I view it as a sign of endearment.
Nice to meet everyone!
