INTRO Insurance won’t cover tirz (maintenance)… Switch to Reta or stick with tirz?

Hey all!

Thrilled to have stumbled on this community — I’ve been hunting for a space like this for quite a while.

So here’s where I’m at:

5’9 M 30

SW: 225

GW: 165

CW: 152

Began Zepbound in Jan 2025, titrated up to 10mg for weight loss, then stepped down to 7.5mg for maintenance (typically every 8-10 days).

Changed employers, and the new insurance (Aetna 🤮) refuses to cover it even though I have a comorbidity. Seems like to get coverage for a drug that addresses obesity and prevents cardiac events, you must: 1) currently be obese, and 2) HAVE HAD A CARDIAC EVENT?

So I’m trying to figure out my next step. I still have 3 pens of zep. Do I make the jump to Reta or keep going with tirz for the time being? Are the prices comparable?

Thanks for any input — looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Based on what I’ve noticed across every vendor, Tirz consistently comes in at a lower cost per mg compared to Reta. I haven’t personally tried Tirz, but I can share that Reta has been fantastic for me. Over eight weeks I dropped 13 pounds without tracking calories or putting in much effort. I’m the same height as you and currently at your goal weight, so I wasn’t obese, and it still delivered great results.

This policy makes no sense at all. Are we supposed to pile the weight back on? Yo-yoing up and down does damage to your health.

The whole thing is maddening, since we already know that losing and regaining repeatedly does more damage to your health, largely because the weight you put back on tends to come with less muscle than you had before. For a lot of people, the evidence shows these medications are meant to be taken indefinitely. As for me, I have managed to drop the weight ‘naturally,’ but holding onto that loss over the long haul is incredibly difficult when food noise is constantly in the background.

I’ve only used Reta, but at 2mg per week it’s been a miracle for me and basically everyone I know. Stacked with TRT and HGH, my weight (185-190 at 5’10) has stayed about the same over the 8 weeks I’ve been on it, yet the fat has melted away—my love handles are gone, my abs are beginning to show, and my face has leaned out. I’d guess I went from 20% bf to near 15%.

Do your research. Then research even more. Find the vendor that’s most active and has the freshest feedback from people who’ve actually received orders, then filter down to the ones whose prices and quantities fit your budget.

It’s pretty easy
