Rule follower here, so an intro it is!
43, living in North Carolina. Running used to be a big part of my life (ask me about running! Runners love talking about it, retired ones included) (and no, you're probably picturing someone lean. My last marathon was run at 176 lbs and a size 12. Fast was never the claim!) but the past year or so has been pretty sedentary. Stress at home and at work killed off my activity level, nutrition and motivation, and the upshot is none of my clothes fit any more.
I tried raising my activity and cutting the late night snacks - and I just couldn't. Help was what I needed. That's when I discovered Reta. After a whole lot of research I started 10 weeks ago at 233.4lbs, low and slow, and I'm currently on 1.5mg every 5 days. A little over 18lbs is gone (weighing myself is something I really dislike, and non-scale victories are more meaningful to me because scale weight says nothing about health...but the tracking has to happen somehow) and it's a rate I'm comfortable with.
Reading posts here over the last few weeks is what brought me to the forum, because Reddit is, well, Reddit.
Healthy eating habits are something I really want to discuss; even on a fairly low dose I'm not getting enough protein and carbs. And water is definitely not being drunk in sufficient quantities! As a former runner (see, we throw that in every chance we get) macros, nutrition and hydration are all familiar territory, but as a currently lazy lumper I seem to just ignore all of it.
Side effects are a topic I want to dig into — does anyone else get sulfur burps from merely looking at a chicken wing?! Or, if you eat past 7:30 at night, do you also wake with the most intense heartburn ever?
Bringing exercise back in is another one, along with hearing about the activities you love, hate, and love to hate (running).
Your non-scale victories deserve celebrating! And mine deserve telling! (A work shirt that was a bit too tight a few weeks ago went on today without making me feel entirely like a sausage!!)
Mostly, I want a place to read and learn from other people's experiences, and maybe share a few of my own.
Thanks for sitting through my INTRO-Talk.
