Hi everyone,
I stumbled across this forum only recently and really wish I had come across it sooner. My road with GLP's has been a lengthy one: Trulicity back in 2019, then Ozempic for 5 years, and Mounjaro for 2 at this point.
Finding an excellent GP has been a stroke of luck for me. He has built his career around assisting people who battle obesity, and he grasps what insulin and appetite really involve, along with willpower, metabolic and genetic imperatives. He recognises that for a lot of people, GLP's are a lifelong commitment. That is true in my case, for as long as I can manage the cost and my body keeps tolerating it.
In so many respects it has changed everything, not only that my ideal weight has stayed stable for years, but there are further advantages to this medication. Throughout my life I have had periods of bulimia - set off by binging - and GLP's have brought that behaviour down to zero because I have no urge to binge. I am calmer, steadier, and a recent dexa body scan came back with fantastic results that I attribute almost entirely to using GLP's.
Early on in my usage there were some difficulties, as my body was not responding well. Rotating Contrave with Ozempic on a monthly basis was my workaround, and it helped for a while, but in the end, nothing performs as well as GLP's. These days I take a small dose of Mounjaro every 8 days plus a half dose of Contrave.
Obesity has been part of my life since childhood. When I was around 30, I got to a point where I was ready to confront some demons and make consistent changes. One result of living with obesity for so long is that all hope and faith had gone - trying to lose weight and being disappointed yet again was simply too painful, so I attempted to be content at the weight I was. That never worked. For many years I worked hard and white knuckled it, keeping off 40 kg for roughly a decade. Then peri-menopause came along and everything shifted once more. I went back and forth gaining and losing 5 to 10 kg, and the older I got, the harder it became to shed the gain.
Nearly my whole life has been spent thinking about weight and attempting to lose it. Ozempic and Mounjaro have handed me a different life, one I believed would never be within reach. Each day no longer involves having my foot on the pedal trying to manage an out of control appetite. Now it feels like I can make whatever choice I want around food, since I am no longer driven to consume. So very grateful.
That is part of my story, and thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read it. I am keen to hear how others are using GLP's and what changes they have experienced.
