Hey everyone. I'm not really sure how to kick this off beyond saying I'm the new guy. I'm a man in my 30's, 5'9 tall, and my starting weight was roughly 280 lbs. (yikes!). Through strict calorie tracking and a ton of exercise, I muscled my way down to about 230. Then I began picking up whispers about GLPs and the grey market on Reddit and TikTok. My doctor had no issue writing a GLP-1 script, but getting it filled through insurance was basically a dead end. Eventually I took the plunge and ordered my first Reta vial from a grey middleman on TikTok, and I've been running 2mg per week for roughly 5 weeks. I'm deliberately taking the weight loss slowly to hold onto as much muscle as I can. My goal is 2 lbs per week and it's happening, even if the pace is maddening. This morning I weighed 208. Starting today I'm moving up to 4mg of Reta. The 2mg was doing its job, but I'd like a little extra appetite control on weekends for date nights with my wife. Once this vial is done I'll likely go fully grey, since I can picture myself using this for maintenance long term. I'm also considering a switch to Tirz when I reach maintenance, just to cut costs a bit. Tirz looks cheaper on the whole, and the stronger suppression would likely help me keep the weight off. For now, while I'm still actively losing, Reta lets me tune my appetite exactly where I want it, so I can stay focused on hitting my macro and calorie targets and keep my workouts fun. The gym has turned into a hobby for me, so I don't want to sabotage that by under-eating just because I finally can.

I've never been someone who understood what "full" felt like. From a young age I was taught to "make a happy plate"! (meaning: empty plate) For maybe the first time since becoming an adult, I'm bringing leftovers home from restaurants. That's a good feeling! Reta has also noticeably cut down my drinking. I was never a problem drinker, I just really enjoyed beer on weekends. I can't tell if it's mental or just worry that Reta might alter how alcohol hits me and the next day, but either way it's probably better for me. I miss beer, but moderation in all things, I guess. So that's my story. Glad to be here and learn more, and to talk with other like-minded former-fat-fucks.

Hello there, neighbor. 280 beats 400 any day! And you're right—insurance is terrible about weight loss. Mine will gladly refer me to a dietician. But every medication or surgery is explicitly listed as not covered. Zero exceptions. I began with Eli's official "pay out of pocket" vials last month. After that I picked up some compounded ones to prepare for what comes next. But given the recent FDA nonsense, I figured the smart move is to "diversify my options". So here I am.

And yeah, I was also brought up with the "clean your plate" mindset. I think it's because my family on both sides descended from Quakers and also people who lived through the Great Depression. My grandmother never tossed ANYTHING. She even washed disposable plates to use again.

Regarding maintenance, hopefully the orals will plummet in price over the next 2 or 3 years.
