Hey there, everybody!

After spending a while as just some anonymous lurker, I'm happy to say I'm now a full-fledged forum member. A bit about me: I'm a guy in his early 30s, I live close to Death Valley in California, and my job involves big data research. Ever since I started my post-secondary education 10 years ago, the pounds have crept on without me wanting them to. Luckily, around 2 years back, I finally got into a situation where I could pay for decent medical insurance and treatment.

So I started exploring every possible avenue for improving my situation, and that search is what brought me to this forum, where folks are openly chatting about their interests and their own weight-loss objectives. Over the next few months, I'm eager to tell you more about myself, and especially more about how my weight-loss journey is going.

Thanks to everyone who has pitched in and turned this great forum into a source of both knowledge and encouragement. Looking forward to jumping into the discussion.

Hey there, and thanks for the welcome. Would you mind sharing roughly where around Death Valley you're based? Back when I was a kid, we'd go there on trips, and from what I recall, the area didn't have many towns close by. Totally get it if you'd rather keep that private, though. Sounds like this year's spring desert bloom is going to be a good one for you — make the most of it!

Hey, thanks for the friendly reception. Beatty, Nevada is where I come from originally — roughly 45 minutes away from DV National park. As for the place I'm living now, I'd rather not say too much about that.

That makes perfect sense to me. My travels have only taken me to the Park's western side—I came in once by way of the Panamints—and I've never gone east of it. The stretch around Randsberg and Trona is quite unusual. Or at least, that's how it struck me at the time.
